Since 1985, Metal Technology has been
defining spaces through its architectural
glazing solutions and has grown to become
one of the UK and Ireland’s leading designers
and suppliers of bespoke aluminium window,
door, curtain wall and solar shading systems for
commercial and residential applications.
Building a sustainable future
Dedicated to reducing its carbon footprint, Metal
Technology is committed to reducing its scope
1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 50% by
2030, as well as measuring and reducing its
scope 3 GHG emissions.
Metal Technology is also certified to BES6001 for
responsible sourcing of construction products
and through its ISO14001 environmental quality
accreditation, the company has been able
to reduce the impact of its operations on the
environment year on year.
Following on from the installation of solar panels
in 2014, the company is introducing an additional
100KW system this year, with a programme to
enhance this further in 2024. All company vehicles
ordered from 2022 will be fully electric or hybrid,
and any electricity sourced is from a green energy
source, further demonstrating Metal Technology’s
long-term commitment to the built environment.
Product range
Metal Technology’s product portfolio
encompasses over 30 window, door, curtain
walling, brise soleil and louvre systems. Its
Thermally Enhanced (Hi+) portfolio offers the
designer a wide and diverse choice of profiles
that provide structural integrity, weather
performance, thermal enhancement and security.
The introduction of its new Passive House range
is further testament of Metal Technology’s
commitment to the built environment. The
Passive House Institute has certified System
5-45 Hi+ Window and System 17 Hi+ Curtain
Walling, with the latter achieving the highest
ranking of A+. Further Passive House products
are under development as the company continues
its drive to reduce its carbon footprint on the road
to Net Zero.
Projects
Contracted for many commercial schemes
throughout the UK, Metal Technology has
supplied its architectural glazing systems for
developments such as: CABI’s stunning low
energy headquarters in Wallingford; Brinell
Building, the BREEAM Excellent rated contemporary
office space in Brighton city centre; the awardwinning
CDE Global headquarters in Cookstown;
the Halo Enterprise and Innovation Centre (HEIC),
part of the £63m brownfield urban regeneration
project by HALO Urban Regeneration Company
and Wolverhampton’s BREEAM ‘excellent’ rated
i9 Building which picked up Best Commercial
Development at the RICS West Midlands Awards,
and is now home to the Ministry of Housing,
Communities and Local Government.
This year saw the opening of SuperLab in Oxford,
for which Metal Technology supplied a range of
its high-performance glazing products. Providing
much needed lab space and facilities for the next
generation of science innovators, the purposebuilt
building by Robin Swailes Design and
Development provides a modern work space with
green credentials. Metal Technology’s systems
were also installed in the Port of Leith Distillery, a
40-metre-tall Scotch Whisky distillery located in
Edinburgh’s historic port of Leith.
Metal Technology has applied its expertise in
close collaboration with designers to deliver
financially economic yet technically robust
solutions for the healthcare sector. The company
supplied its high-performance glazing systems
for the National Treatment Centre for NHS
Highland, an ‘exemplar’ healthcare facility
for ophthalmology and orthopaedic surgery
in Inverness, and Metal Technology’s high
performance glazing systems were also utilised
in the new Clydebank Health Centre built on the
site of the former John Brown’s shipyard. The
£21.7m landmark building offers the Clydebank
community access to a wide range of health
and social care services under one roof. With
47,000 registered patients, the facility houses
300 NHS staff and boasts the latest in digital and
medical technology. Metal Technology has also
been appointed for the prestigious, £233m Baird
Family Hospital and Anchor Centre healthcare
project in Aberdeen for NHS Grampian.
Metal Technology has vast experience of providing
fenestration solutions for over 1,000 universities,
colleges and schools throughout the UK. The
company was a key supplier in a number of
recently completed projects within the education
sector: the landmark £41m Health Innovation One
building at Lancaster University; the innovative
£69m Barony Campus, Scotland’s biggest
school; the 1,480 bed £130m University of York
flagship student accommodation campus and
Madras College, Fife’s new ‘Platinum Standard’
sustainable school (pictured above).
