In an <strong>in</strong>timate even<strong>in</strong>g of comic reflection, rem<strong>in</strong>iscence and<br />

revelation, one of the most noted<br />

comedy writers and directors of<br />

the last few decades looks back<br />

over his more than 40 years <strong>in</strong><br />

comedy and 70 (ish!) years on the<br />

planet and tries to answer some<br />

questions.<br />

Recall<strong>in</strong>g stories from his extensive<br />

professional career <strong>in</strong> comedy, Andy<br />

Hamilton shares memories,<br />

anecdotes and op<strong>in</strong>ions, from the<br />

political to the personal, <strong>in</strong> just a handful of selected dates this<br />

summer. Audiences will also have the opportunity to ask Andy<br />

questions on any topic, so one show will never be the same as<br />

another!<br />

Beg<strong>in</strong>n<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> 1976 as a contributor to Radio 4’s Weekend<strong>in</strong>g, Andy<br />

went on to pick up a raft of awards for co-writ<strong>in</strong>g and co-direct<strong>in</strong>g<br />

such household TV classics as Drop The Dead Donkey and<br />

Outnumbered.<br />

In addition, Andy’s numerous TV and radio credits <strong>in</strong>clude Have I<br />

<strong>Lichfield</strong> Garrick<br />

Turns 20!<br />

The <strong>Lichfield</strong> Garrick Theatre is<br />

<strong>in</strong>vit<strong>in</strong>g patrons old and new to<br />

recall their memories of the theatre<br />

as part of plans to mark the venue’s<br />

20th anniversary this summer.<br />

The theatre and arts charity is<br />

one of <strong>Lichfield</strong>’s lead<strong>in</strong>g<br />

enterta<strong>in</strong>ment and cultural dest<strong>in</strong>ations, and wants to celebrate the role<br />

that so many local people have played <strong>in</strong> its success over the years. It’d<br />

love to hear your fondest, funniest, proudest stories of visit<strong>in</strong>g the<br />

Garrick, whether that’s watch<strong>in</strong>g a particular show, perform<strong>in</strong>g on one<br />

of the stages, tak<strong>in</strong>g part <strong>in</strong> a workshop, or perhaps meet<strong>in</strong>g a friend or<br />

loved one for the first time. Just drop the Garrick an email, send an<br />

image (family photos or selfies welcome!), or lend it a programme, and<br />

the team will <strong>in</strong>clude it <strong>in</strong> an exhibition created to tell the story of the<br />

theatre’s first twenty years.<br />

The Garrick will be kick<strong>in</strong>g off its anniversary year with an ‘open<br />

house’ event on Saturday 1st July, where residents will be welcome to<br />

visit the venue, meet the team and enjoy a host of free activities,<br />

<strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g beh<strong>in</strong>d-the-scenes tours, light<strong>in</strong>g and sound demonstrations,<br />

performances by community groups, workshops, and an archive display<br />

of Garrick memorabilia. Local historian, Jono Oates, will also be on hand<br />

to answer historical questions and showcase the theatre’s orig<strong>in</strong>al<br />

architectural draw<strong>in</strong>gs. Plus, there will be 20 chances dur<strong>in</strong>g the day to<br />

w<strong>in</strong> tickets for this year’s pantomime, Beauty & the Beast.<br />

and Old Harry’s Game.<br />

The theatre will also be launch<strong>in</strong>g Garrick 20 on Saturday 1st July, a<br />

year-long project open<strong>in</strong>g the Garrick to <strong>Lichfield</strong>’s many different<br />

communities – with an ambition to help 20 local groups and artists to<br />

realise a creative ambition, to offer 20 tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g placements for young<br />

people, and to take creative opportunities <strong>in</strong>to 20 schools. Watch out for<br />

an open callout, com<strong>in</strong>g very soon.<br />
