Great turnout for awards evening
THE SOUND of excited chatter
reverberated around the Mt
Pleasant Community Centre on
Friday evening as the recipients
of the Sumner Ferrymead
Foundation scholarships and
awards programme arrived to
receive their awards and meet
their sponsors.
There was a great turnout,
with friends and families of
the recipients in attendance,
along with supporters of the
foundation.
Sumner Ferrymead
Foundation chair Martin
Hawes said the function was
a great opportunity to not
only recognise the recipients
achievements, but also to
recognise the sponsors of the
awards programme.
“Without the sponsors,
the scholarships and awards
programme would stretch the
foundation financially, so we
really appreciate their support.”
The recipients had the
opportunity to meet their
sponsors and thank them
personally.
The sponsor of the
Environment Award – a
Sumner local – said sponsoring
the Sumner Ferrymead
Foundation’s award allowed
them to “put back” into the
community.
“I like the foundation’s ethos
of ‘locals helping locals’.”
HERE’S HOW
BUDGET
2023
HELPS WITH THE
COST OF LIVING
Tracey McLellan
MP for Banks Peninsula
Helping with health costs by
removing the $5 co-payment
for prescription medicines.
This will help an estimated three
million Kiwis.
Reducing the cost of early
childhood education for parents
by extending 20 hours free
ECE to two-year-olds. This will
save families money and reduce
barriers for working parents to
take on more hours if they can.
Permanently cutting the costs
of public transport for young
Kiwis. We’re providing free fares
on buses, trains and ferries for
kids aged 5 to 12 and half-price
discounts for those aged 13 to 24.
Reducing power bills by
making homes more energy
efficient. We’re helping to reduce
power bills by hundreds of dollars
a year through the Warmer Kiwi
Homes programme.
This practical cost of living package will help to make things a bit
easier for households by reducing or removing some of the costs
they currently face. Millions of Kiwis will pay less as a result.
