BühlerÊs new generation of
Single Screw Extruder for Aquatic Feed
Single-screw extruder, with simple structure
and relatively lower cost has been
applied in aquatic feed manufacturing for
decades, especially for tilapia, catfish fish,
carp, etc. which need low proteins level.
Along with the rapid expansion of aqua
market in recent years, aquatic producers
demand new single screw extruder with
wider range of capacity.
Wider range of capacity
Many aquatic feed producers need more
efficient production, and they request
for 15 ton per hour (tph) per line.
Therefore, new challenges and requirements
emerged: the extruder should not
only be stable, robust but also very high
capacity.
“Now, with the global introduction of
the AHSJ 265, we can provide highcapacity
extrusion solution to the aqua
market.” affirmed Chao Luan, Head of
Market Segment Aqua at Bühler.
On the other hand, some aqua feed
producers need smaller single screw
extruder because they are new aqua feed
players, so they are very cautious, or
they have very limited budget. “For
those customers, the screw diameter of
AHSI is 165 mm and is tailored for lower
capacity production with a lower
investment cost.” said Chao Luan.

High reliability, low maintenance
By using belt driven design, AHSI – 165
and AHSK – 215 not only can achieve
maximum efficiency through high
quality V-belt power transmission but
also has relatively lower maintenance
cost. Furthermore, increased featurerich
gearbox (GB) is also available to
fulfill customers premium requirements.
Multifunctional barrels design allows
versatile applications and easy operation.
Barrels are equipped with internal
channels for tempering (heating and
cooling) of the process section.
Maintenance is very friendly thanks to
easily removable screw and accessibility
for barrel exchange. Standard cutter unit
has very high operational dependability.
Compact design for stable running
conditions. Monitoring of torque and
easy to fine adjustment of the cutter
head. Multiple sensor interlocks to
ensure production and operator safety.
Bühler’s positive pressure system (PPS)
can provide excellent and stable performance
for sinking pellets (shrimp, crab,
etc.) production. It can also increase
capacity, lower the content of liquid
addition, decreasing energy consumption.
PPS enables Aquatic feed producers
to produce pellets with extremely
uniform appearance. The die plate is
customizable and tailored to reach the
best performance. Bühler can design and
manufacture according to customer
needs, for sinking, floating, micro
pellets, and all diverse shape aquatic
feed.
User-friendly automation system
Bühler’s state of the art automation
system ensures the production efficiency
and is very convenient to control the
quality. It can monitor the torque and
regulate all relevant process parameters.
By defining start-up and shut-down
phases, production efficiency can be
increased. Product recipes can be stored
which ensures consistent quality.
Operator can start production very fast
without changing many parameters.
Historical data is 100% transparent,
allowing quick traceability of production
data. The most important thing is the
HMI is very intuitive and user-friendly.
