Switzerland was enjoying a steady growth curve
in its RV industry for the last decade before the
COVID-19 pandemic. Each year from 2014 onwards
a new record was set in terms of numbers of new
caravans and motorhomes registered in the country.
This growth then spiked in 2020 and 2021, like it
did in most places, thanks to the travel restrictions
imposed by coronavirus and a renewed interest in
caravanning by European holidaymakers. This spike
of growth has stabilised again in the last couple of
years as Switzerland faced the problems of a lack of
new motorhomes being able to be manufactured due
to chassis shortages and other supply problems. It
appears that things are returning to a healthy state in
Switzerland and the country’s RV market maintains is
position on the track towards growth and prosperity.
TRADE BODIES
CaravaningSuisse, or the Swiss Caravan Trade
Association (SCGV) is one of Switzerland’s most
important trade bodies. The organisation works on
behalf of the interests of companies that work in
any sector of the leisure vehicle industry, including
motorhomes, caravans, campervans, and all
associated accessories. The organisation is also
involved in the organisation of Switzerland’s major
RV exhibition, Suisse Caravan Salon. Learn more
about the association online at www.caravaningsuisse.ch.
Another interesting body of note in Switzerland
is Wohnmobil Land Schweiz – an organisation that
exists to try and increase and expand motorhome
infrastructure in the country. Through a membership
system, lobbying, and regular communications with
the media, Wohnmobil Land Schweiz has helped to
have nearly 300 new motorhome pitches installed in
Switzerland since the year 2020. It has a membership
of more than 3,200. You can find out more about
them at www.womoland.ch
