You can benefit from his experience In the lead up to its 150th anniversary celebration over Labour weekend, the Lyttelton Volunteer Fire Brigade looks back at its past in a regular column THIS FINE line up is the Lyttelton Volunteer Fire Brigade dated 1901. Judging by the wall they’re lined up against, and the reflections in the glass behind, it’s likely a year or two later. Regardless, it’s the earliest group photo of the brigade that was officially formed in 1873. By the turn of the century, they already had a sterling reputation for efficiency and “commendable promptitude” in the face of many unique challenges. Dozens of photos like this are about to feature prominently as the brigade winds up to its 150th anniversary celebrations over Labour weekend. Given such a rich history the 150th anniversary book that’s being produced has a lot to pack in.
