Prebbleton, West Melton’s best
players recognised with awards
Eddie Sunia and Bradley Johns took out major awards at
the Prebbleton and West Melton rugby clubs prize-givings
at the weekend. Jaime Cunningham reports
EDDIE SUNIA was named
Prebbleton’s division 1 player of
the year on Saturday night.
The flanker started on the
blindside in the Coleman Shield
final against Waihora last month,
which Prebbleton won 37-3.
At West Melton’s senior prizegiving
on Friday night, their
division 1 top-try scorer Bradley
Johns was named player of the
year for his team. The hooker
scored 10 tries over the season.

Tim Murgatroyd (player/coach)
shared the Jim Jones Memorial
Trophy for the club’s senior
coaches of the year.
Prebbleton winger Arata
Yoshida was named the Lumber
Specialties Cup rookie of the year
for the division 1 side and won
the Dave Forrester & Karl Challis
Trophy for the under-19 player of
the year. The division 1 side also
recorded the most points of any
senior team this year with 591.
At the West Melton prizegiving,
Harry Pringle was named
the victorious division 3 side’s
player of the year and voted the
player’s player. Pringle featured
at centre in their 19-12 win
over Prebbleton in last month’s
Ellesmere final. Brooklyn Dalgety
took home the Johnathan Gall

Player Cup. Dalgety was a
regular starter at centre for
Selwyn Schools’ Combined this
season and one of five West
Melton players selected in the
Ellesmere under-16s.
