when they’d bring a son or daughter, and you’d see them
sharing these things together. At the end of the trip, the
son or daughter would say, ‘Dad never told me about his
war years, but he really opened up to me on this trip.’”
Briggs said she doesn’t have plans of doing another flight
anytime soon, but supports the non-profit and looks
forward to the documentary. “I wanted to tell the story of
how it’s really made their last few years – especially for the
World War II guys – it’s really deepened and made their
later years rich with their families,” Briggs said. “This
trip is more than just sightseeing – it’s changed the way
families communicate together.”
Support the Cause
There are 16.5 million Veterans in the United States and
a little under half served before the Gulf War. Since 2005
the Honor Flight Network has honored 273,543 Veterans
and Honor Flight of North Dakota/Minnesota wants to
continue to be a part of that number. “There are so many
people still on the list,” Matejcek said. “We really need
supporters to keep these flights going. If we run out of
money there are no Honor Flights.”
