The Cashmere High School
student will compete in the solo
trampoline event.
It comes after she won silver and
bronze at the Australian nationals
earlier this year.
She has won several New
Zealand titles, and is part of the
Olympia Gymnastics Sports Club
in Wigram.
Leney said the family is looking
for ways to fundraise for the trip.
“We are looking for sponsors,
for a ‘we’ve got your back’ t-shirt,
which will be her new favourite
shirt for summer, as a way of
thanking all the kind people who
have helped her get there,” she said.
“We have had a few donations
through Givealittle, who’s names
will be added to the shirt.”

It is also another flip-flop from
Mauger who during his election
campaign promised a rates rise of
about 4 per cent this year. The city
council approved a 6.4 per cent rise
in June.
The city council owns 100 per
cent of the port company, City Care,
fibre broadband provider Enable
and Eco-Central, 75 per cent of the
airport, and 89 per cent of Orion
through its company Christchurch
City Holdings Ltd.
Mauger told Stuff because the city
council had owned the assets for
years it didn’t mean it was a good
investment.
Over the past 30 years, the assets
have returned almost $2 billion to
ratepayers. But a report last year
by investment bank and corporate
advisory business, Northington
Partners, found it could have been
more.
City councillors voted 10 to seven
late last year to develop detailed
business cases looking at the costs
and benefits of partially selling off
its assets.
The Maritime Union is opposed
to selling the port company.
National secretary Craig Harrison
told Stuff ports are important
drivers of local economies because
they facilitate trade.
“We need to see them as strategic
assets, not cash cows,” he said.
He urged residents to “be wary”
of privatising local assets.
