While Labor Day<br />
marked the unofficial end<br />
of summer, the first day of<br />
autumn, Sept. 23, is still<br />

change has increased the<br />
intensity of symptoms and<br />
the length of time that<br />

Questioning faith: Don’t be afraid to ask God for answers<br />

Have you ever thought about faith?<br />
Well, everyone has some faith. They<br />
have faith — even unknowingly — that<br />
their vehicle will get them from Point A to<br />
Point B with no trouble. They have faith<br />
that they can get through each day without<br />
any problems.<br />
You may even have “doubting faith.”<br />
Well, that’s still a kind of faith. Many people<br />
have questioned their faith, only to find<br />
that their questioning was like a child asking<br />
their parents “Why?” a dozen times.<br />
We all ask questions about things, especially<br />
about what we believe in. This is<br />
nothing new. Even great characters of faith<br />
from the Bible had questions. If you don’t<br />
believe me, just take a look at your Bible,<br />
and you can read about all those who had<br />
questions about everything.<br />
To have questions of faith is typical for<br />
all of us. We all want to understand and<br />
want to know the “why” of things.<br />
I’ve even had people ask me why we need<br />
to pray. To me, this is an odd question. We<br />
all pray about something daily, even if we<br />
don’t realize we’re praying. It may not be a<br />
traditional prayer, but we DO pray in various<br />
ways.<br />
Have you ever prayed you would get<br />
where you are going on time — not asking<br />
as a direct prayer, but as a thought? Life<br />
is full of prayers that are said daily. We all<br />
question ourselves about what’s going on<br />
in our daily lives.<br />
As adults, we ask the “why” in our daily<br />
lives. Sometimes we give answers to our<br />
questions. I know I have done that on several<br />
occasions.<br />
Jesus said we should come to him as children.<br />
Children are always full of questions,<br />

you pray. And don’t be surprised if you get<br />
a positive or negative answer. Sometimes<br />
“no” can actually be the better answer, because<br />
God may have a better plan for you.<br />
In my lifetime, I have received quite a few<br />
“no” answers to prayer, only to later receive<br />
a better “yes.” It all worked out for me in a<br />
much better situation.<br />
Have you asked a question and received<br />
a “no” but later got a better response?<br />
That’s how you know God listens and answers<br />
all our questions and prayers. Don’t<br />
be afraid to ask questions. If you don’t<br />
question things, you won’t get an answer.<br />
Kids know how to keep asking until they<br />
have all the answers. Well, God wants us to<br />
keep asking until he gives us all the correct<br />
answers. Have faith in your prayer questions,<br />
and know God is there with your<br />
answer. Draw on him for your direction<br />
in life. He has the answer to all your questions.<br />

What Goes Bump in the Night — Florida State University<br />
Edition, Part 1<br />

Welcome to another week of Over<br />
the Top! I’m so excited about our upcoming<br />
autumn season. This edition<br />
of “What Goes Bump in the Night” will<br />
take us to the campus of Florida State<br />
University (FSU).<br />
Have you ever walked somewhere<br />
and felt a shivering chill traveling<br />
down your body? Have you ever waked<br />
up in the middle of the night feeling<br />
like someone … or something … was<br />
watching you? Have you ever heard<br />
someone call your name — but when<br />
you turned around, no one was there?<br />
I need you to answer these, along<br />
with this final and most crucial question:<br />
Have you experienced any of<br />
these moments as a student or faculty<br />
member (or as a visitor) at FSU? If you<br />
have … well, you are not the first, nor<br />
the last.<br />
Let’s visit our first campus location,<br />
Cawthon Hall.<br />
The oldest FSU ghost story originated<br />
decades before the school was even<br />
established. Long before the Cawthon<br />
Hall dormitory was built, Gallows Hill<br />
stood in its place. Constructed in 1829,<br />
the Gallows was the hangout spot for<br />
the most unpleasant criminals in Tallahassee.<br />
Sightings of the ghost of a mother,<br />
who was convicted of killing her own<br />
child, have been reported, causing students<br />
to feel chills and hear strange<br />
sounds in the area at night.<br />
But wait — there’s more! The murderous<br />
mom is not the only spirit who<br />
allegedly haunts the building.<br />
After Cawthon Hall was built as a<br />
dormitory for students, they began to<br />
have ghostly visits from the person after<br />
which the building was named. Sarah<br />
“Tissie” Landrum Cawthon, a former<br />
campus house mother who oversaw the<br />
female students’ behavior and representation<br />
of themselves, is said to have<br />
moved into the dorm when the building<br />
was dedicated to her. She became<br />
more active as students began following<br />
more modern standards of conduct and<br />
wearing more revealing clothing.<br />
The other ghost of the hall is reportedly<br />
a female student who lived in the<br />
dorm in the 1970s. One day, the unidentified<br />
student went to the roof to sunbathe,<br />
but a storm rolled in. According<br />
to campus lore, she tried to go back into<br />
the building but discovered the door<br />
was locked. She began banging on the<br />
door, hoping someone would hear her<br />
and let her in. Unfortunately, she was<br />
struck by lightning and was later found.<br />
Students today have reported hearing<br />
someone pounding on their windows,<br />
crying and screaming to be let in. They<br />

also report seeing the ghostly figure of<br />
a woman looking into their windows<br />

Whew! There are so many ghosts<br />
on FSU’s campus! I think FSU should<br />
change its name to Florida’s Ghost University.<br />
Well, maybe not, but it could<br />
work for a great Halloween fundraiser<br />
for the university. Who do I need to<br />
contact on campus, and how do I put<br />
a patent on this idea? FSU, you can<br />
