CELEBRATION: A re-enactment of the first French settlers and
performances like Pepper Hall, above, were part of the Akaroa French
Festival at the weekend.
• By Sasha Watson
THE BIENNIAL Akaroa French Festival
was a ‘full-on and fun-filled’ weekend.
“It was a fantastic three days, with lots
of fun had by all,” said festival spokesperson
Luke Dawkins.
“The town was buzzing and it was all
hands on deck.”
The festival opened on Friday night
with a pōwhiri, followed by a market.
Saturday morning saw re-enactments
of the first French settlers arriving in
1840, a parade and another market.
More than 800 festival-goers enjoyed
burlesque, comedy and live entertainment
at variety show Le Cabaret on
Saturday night, while Sunday offered
a family fun day with the La Brocante
vintage fair and the fancy french pooch
parade.
Games and competitions were held
throughout the three days. Stallholders
also held various raffles and gave away
spot prizes.
Resident
fails to stop
Urumau
Reserve
spraying
• By Sasha Watson
CONCERNED
Lyttelton
resident Wendy
Everingham has
been unsuccessful
in her bid to stop
herbicide spraying
in the Urumau Reserve.
The Lyttleton Reserves Committee
and the city council’s
regional park ranger team sent a
letter of intent to neighbours of
the reserve in September.
The letter expressed the wish
to spray old man’s beard using
‘associate 600 WDG’, which hosts
an active ingredient called metsaulfuron.
“The proposed herbicide might
be effective to control old man’s
beard yet is considered very toxic
to the soil,” said Everingham.
“Metsulfuron can travel
through the soil via water
droplets. This can leave active
residue in the soil and affects the
surrounding non-target plants.”
The city council said yesterday
the spraying will happen before
the December/January flowering
period.
‘Proposed herbicide very toxic to soil’
• From page 1
Everingham was Lyttleton’s
community weed control manager
from 2019 to 2023, as well as being
a part of the reserve management
control team from 2013 to 2023.
“I know this land extremely well,”
she said.
“Under community management
of the reserve, the policy for weed
removal was no spray – cut and paste
only. Spray has not been applied to
Urumau Reserve since 2007.”
Everingham said that this was
a ‘deliberate’ choice of the former
committee to ‘restore the health of
the land’.
“Spraying is only a quick fix and
just kills foliage for a season or two.
There is a real danger that community
plantings will be sprayed out,
accounting for well over 1200 trees.
“I argue that under the Reserves
Act 1977, the rangers are not allowed
to be responsible for making policy,
rather it is the community board.”
A city council spokesperson said
the community board is “tasked with
news
governance and representing local
constituents.”
Said the spokesperson: “Staff and
reserve committee members have
been working together to develop a
three-year plan for operational and
capital works.
“Day-to-day maintenance such as
mowing, weed control and animal
pest control and managing health
and safety issues are carried out by
the council rangers and the reserve
committee with support from
contractors and volunteers.”
REGENERATION: A project to put more than 30,000 native
‘It’s incredible to bring to life a
• By Lily Duval
MORE THAN 30,000 native
trees, shrubs and grasses have
been planted in the valley above
Rāpaki marae over the past
two years. The plants follow the
Ōmaru Stream as it turns from
a trickle at the Summit Rd to a
flowing creek at the beach below.
To celebrate the completion of
the project, staff from Conservation
Firefighters focus on preventing fires
• By Daniel Alvey
VOLUNTEER firefighters are
normally focused on putting
fires out, but now they are more
prepared to prevent them before
they start.
Fire and Emergency New
Zealand community risk
manager Dean Harker held a
training session with volunteers
from Banks Peninsula and
Selwyn District covering a range
of topics to help reduce fires.
Those volunteers are tasked
with upskilling their colleagues
and the public.
“What we’re doing is educating
them on readiness and recovery
resources that the community
risk management team have. The
purpose behind it is so that we
can upskill them, so they can
educate the public moving into
summer,” Harker said.
Fire chiefs are concerned about
the predicted dry conditions that
will prevail with the El Niño
weather pattern and the influence
it will have on fires over
summer.
Harker is expecting a busy
fire season with a very hot, dry
summer approaching.
“We want to get as much education
out there to the members of
the public and the communities.
So by upskilling the volunteers, it’s
another way that we can get that
messaging out.”
• Watch the video on
Starnews.co.nz
ACCESS: Dean Harker with a 4m by 4m inflatable which
shows how much room a fire appliance needs to access a
rural property.
PHOTOS: GEOFF SLOAN
He said a common cause of
scrub fires they have seen recently
is burn piles either getting
out of control or reigniting due
to embers not being dampened
down.
“The fire’s finished and then
it hasn’t been extinguished
properly. So what happens is the
strong nor’easters come and they
blow the top off the remaining
ashes, and then that ignites the
embers and they get blown into
other vegetation,” said Harker.
Sometimes it can take up to
three weeks for the ground to be
fully dampened down.
Harker said it is important
to use www.checkitsalright.nz
to find out about restrictions in
place and whether conditions
are okay for fire lighting. The
site is able to suggest a better
day, where the weather might be
more appropriate.
He said it’s also helpful for
people to ring fire communications
to inform them they are
having a fire to ensure they are
aware of it.
EDUCATION: Volunteers learning how to prevent fires.
The volunteers were also
shown examples of low-flammable
planting, which is part of
an education programme run
in conjunction with Lincoln
University.
Something like gorse will burn
much quicker than broadleaf.
“The low flammable planting
is plants that will burn, but at
a very, very slow rate. So what
we’re encouraging people to do
around their home is to use that
sort of planting to stop a fire if
it does come, to actually slow it
down to give them time.”
Other key steps to protecting
properties from the risk of
wildfires include keeping the
grass around buildings short and
clearing gutters of dead leaves
and debris.
Harker said access to a
property can also be challenging.
Property owners need to be
aware of how much space is
required to get a fire truck down
a driveway, which ideally is 4m
by 4m.
Other prevention measures
included in the training were
fire safety home visits, where
volunteers can check whether
smoke alarms are working and
their placement inside the house,
as well as escape plans if there is
a fire.
how climate
NEWS 7
Landslides cause more deaths
than any other natural hazard
RESEARCHERS have received
EQC funding to investigate how
climate change could increase
the risk of damage triggered by
earthquakes and landslides.
Canterbury University School
of Earth and Environment senior
lecturer Dr Timothy Stahl is
leading the research.
Stahl says earthquakes and
landslides are two of New
Zealand’s deadliest and most
costly natural disasters.
“Cumulatively, landslides
have caused more deaths in
New Zealand than any other
natural hazard and lead to $300
million in insurance claims each
year. Our research programme
spans geology and disaster risk
resilience and provides a better
fundamental understanding of
these processes,” he said.
“We plan to create up-to-date
models for these hazards that
will ultimately allow us to be
more prepared and resilient.
We’ll also drive new research
into how natural disasters, such
as landslides, cliff collapse and
flooding triggered by earthquakes,
are affected by climate
change.”
A big quake on the alpine
fault is expected to trigger major
landslides and cut communities
off.
Stahl says it is a high priority
area of research because a warming
climate and more frequent
storms will continue to increase
the cost of insurance claims and
have a profound impact on people’s
lives and property.
“It’s very important because
climate change, which is linked
to varying storm frequency,
intensity and duration, has
an impact on several other
hazards.
“If you have more saturated
ground prior to an earthquake
this increases the risk of
earthquake-induced flooding
and also means there’s a greater
risk of landslides on hillsides.
“Rising sea levels and rivers
running higher will also change
patterns of earthquake-induced
flooding.”
The research team is one
of three from the university
awarded funding from EQC
to fill knowledge gaps and
improve engineering practices.
Each programme will receive
$450,000 over three years from
2024.
Stahl said the study will
expand geological data at key
locations along active faults,
produce better models of
earthquake and landslide multihazards,
and improve guidance
for building near active faults.
updates
readers on the project
A collaboration between
the Silverstream Reserve
management group, the
Coastal Pathway Group and
Fulton Hogan has resulted in
a new life for the footbridge
previously installed over the
rifle range drain at Moncks
Bay.
The 9.3m-long bridge was
constructed by the city council
in the 1990s and formed part
of the old pathway near the
sailing club. It spanned the
concrete wave protection
barrier at the rifle range drain
outlet to the estuary. The
bridge had been removed as
part of the Coastal Pathway
project and replaced with a
wider bridge to complete the
shared use pathway from Ferrymead
to Sumner.
Silverstream Reserve
management group member
David Birch co-ordinated with
Fulton Hogan and the Coastal
Pathway Group to gift the
bridge to Silverstream Reserve,
a 52-hectare nature reserve
located near Clarkville.
The reserve is a place of
varied biodiversity, with
a mixture of wetland and
dryland plants, at the heart of
which is a stream that is home
to native invertebrates and
eels.
It took 18 months to gain
structural engineering approval
for the bridge safety, a bylaw
authority for disturbance of
the stream and banks, and
a budget for the contractual
works.
The bridge was finally
installed on September 28
and will provide visitors with
a shorter loop track, should
they decide not to walk the full
larger loop.
Brigade’s anniversary book
‘a fascinating timeline’
In the lead-up to its
150th anniversary
celebration over Labour
weekend, the Lyttelton
Volunteer Fire Brigade
looks back at its past in
a regular column
THIS IS the distinctive ‘blue,
brass and red’ cover of the
Lyttelton Volunteer Fire
Brigade’s 150th anniversary
book, which will be released in
time for the celebrations over
Labour weekend.
It has 200 pages of historical
stories and photographs and
was written and edited by brigade
member Glen Walker with
assistance from Jack Montgomery
and Rod Twist. Lyttelton’s
own Leon White Design pulled
everything together to create
a fascinating timeline that’s as
much a history of Lyttelton as
it is about the fire brigade itself.
When you wrap all the facts,
figures and a few giggles up together
– what a history it’s been.
The book could easily have been
twice the size.
Our 150th celebrations
start with a meet and greet on
Friday, October 20. There’s a
static display of old and new
fire appliances on Saturday,
between 10am-2pm, followed
that evening by a formal
dinner in a marquee in the
station car park. On Sunday,
a morning of remembrance
and reflection will be followed
by a farewell barbecue.
Books produced for
the 100th and 125th
anniversaries are still in
circulation – this latest
edition should be around in
2048 when the next 25-year
chapter will be written about
the Lyttelton Volunteer Fire
Brigade.
Registrations for the
150th anniversary
celebrations of the
Lyttelton Volunteer
Fire Brigade are open
now. If you’re a past
brigade member, know
someone who is, or
just want to celebrate
the occasion with
them, please email
Meet You At The Main Divide
by Justine Ross, Geoff Ross
ENTER TO
WIN
An inspirational new memoir about leaving the city for a life
in the high country by the authors of Every Bastard Says No
In 2017 the Ross family left behind their inner-city lives in
Auckland and their successful vodka business, 42 Below, to
follow their dreams of a life on the land.
Risk-takers and innovators, when they bought the run-down
6500-hectare high-country sheep station at Lake Hawea, they embarked on
a journey of discovery to rewrite long-held farming principles and ask whether
sustainability could also be profitable. If we look after the land, will it look
after us? Life in the mountainous landscape of the Main Divide isn’t for the faint
hearted. But despite the freezing winters and scorching summer heat, the
demands of fitting in with the locals and managing 10,000 merino sheep, the
Ross family has never looked back.
THIS BOOK
Lola in the Mirror
by Trent Dalton
Bighearted, gritty, magical and moving, Lola in the Mirror is the irresistible new
novel from international bestselling author of Boy Swallows Universe and All Our
Shimmering Skies, Trent Dalton.
‘Mirror, mirror, on the grass, what’s my future? What’s my past?’
A girl and her mother have been on the run for sixteen years, from police and the
monster they left in their kitchen with a knife in his throat. They’ve found themselves
a home inside a van with four flat tyres parked in a scrapyard by the edge of the
Brisbane River. The girl has no name because names are dangerous when you’re on
the run. But the girl has a dream. A vision of a life as an artist of international acclaim.
A life outside the grip of the Brisbane underworld drug queen ‘Lady’ Flora Box. A
life of love with the boy who’s waiting for her on the bridge that stretches across a
flooding, deadly river. A life beyond the bullet that has her name on it. And now that
the storm clouds are rising, there’s only one person who can help make her dreams
come true. That person is Lola and she carries all the answers. But to find Lola, the
girl with no name must first do one of the hardest things we can ever do. She must
look in the mirror. From international bestselling author Trent Dalton, Lola in the
Mirror is a big, moving, blackly funny, violent, heartbreaking and beautiful novel of
love, fate, life and death and all the things we see when we look in the mirror: all our
past, all our present, and all our possible futures.
Ferrymead
Foundation
also farewells
its patron.
The trustees
were saddened
to hear of the
death of their
patron Allan
Williams after
a short illness.
Allan
Williams
Williams had been involved with
the foundation since January
2007, initially as a trustee and
then as the patron.
“He had a strong community
spirit, and embodied the
foundation’s ethos of locals
helping locals,” said trustee Jane
Paterson.
“As a longstanding Mt
Pleasant resident and an astute
businessman, he added so much
value to the foundation. He
will be greatly missed, and our
thoughts are with his partner
and family.”
THE SUMNER Ferrymead
Foundation is delighted three
community-minded residents
have been appointed as trustees.
The foundation’s chair Martin
Hawes said it was often hard
for community groups to find
people who had the time to “roll
up their sleeves” to bring about
positive change in their community,
so it was particularly
gratifying to find three residents
responding to the call.
“With the three new trustees
we have greater diversity in
gender and age, and we are more
representative of our catchment
area too; it’s a very positive step
forward,” he said.
Andrew Clark and his family
live in Heathcote Valley. He
manages a local construction
company, and has various other
business interests. He is known
for his unwavering support for
the local community, especially
when it is in need.
“I have always possessed
a strong desire to share my
knowledge and believe in giving
people a ‘leg up’, so the Sumner
Ferrymead Foundation is a natural
fit,” said Clark. “Especially
as it’s about helping individuals
and community groups in my
community.”
Sarah Angelois is set to complete
her teacher training this
year. A familiar face at Mt Pleasant
learning support, Sarah brings a
strong background in hospitality
and well-being to her community
contributions.
“My husband and two children
“As a recipient of the foundation’s
2022 humanities
scholarship, it’s great to be able
to give something back to our
community.”
Noah Lewis lives in Sumner
and is pursuing a Bachelor of Science
in linguistics and computer
science at Canterbury University.
He works as a research assistant
during the week and at a Sumner
cafe on the weekend.
“I discovered the Sumner
Ferrymead Foundation through
their second-year university
scholarship programme and
thoroughly enjoyed getting
to know some of the trustees
during the interview process, so
it was an easy ‘yes!’ when I was
asked about becoming a trustee,”
he said.
“The idea of working with
a foundation which supports
local people and projects greatly
appealed to me.”
18 Bay Harbour News Wednesday October 11 2023

FROM ABOUT 1853 for nearly
a century, piloting and signalling
functions at Waitata Little
Port Cooper played a vital role
in assisting and controlling
shipping in Whakaraupō
Lyttelton Harbour.
Some of the earliest European
occupants of the bay, alongside
visiting whalers, were a team
of tough and skilled boatmen
from Deal in Kent, England, who
operated the first pilot boat. They
didn’t stay long – when they left
the exposed bay for Timaru, a
crew of local Māori took their
place in crewing the pilot boat
for a time.
In 1860, the provincial
government formally established
a pilot boat service and
constructed a beacon and
lookout on the crest of Te Piaka
Adderley Head, followed by a
stone signal station in 1867.
A slipway and two houses for
pilots and crew were built below
the headland at Cabbage Tree
Point (Long Point) – a small area
just metres above the high tide
mark, backed by precipitous hills
and battered by the wind.
The dwellings were
deconstructed in 1875 and
moved to a much more sheltered
site above the beach; the little
community being added to
with a third house and a school
building in 1883.
The role of cow, goat or sheep milk in
the nutrition and health of older women.
Milk provides important nutrients that help older people to maintain
muscle and bone health, and low milk intake is often associated with
poor nutrition in older adults.
We are looking for female volunteers aged 60 to 80 years to participate
in the YUMMI study, a 12-week research study investigating the health
effects of consuming different types milk – cow, goat, or sheep.
We will provide you with cow, goat or sheep milk powder to drink
twice a day for 12-weeks, or you will be asked to eat your normal diet
(control group). The time commitment for the study will be about 11
hours and you will attend five clinic visits. You will receive up to $220 in
supermarket vouchers in recognition of the actual or reasonable costs
involved with participating in this study (e.g. parking and/or travel costs).
If you are a woman aged 60 to 80 years and can drink milk, we would
love to hear from you.
signal station to an approaching
vessel.
This messaging enabled
stevedores and customs and
health officials to prepare for a
ship’s imminent arrival.
No doubt local residents kept
a watchful eye on the flagpole
too – according to one story, a
mirror attached at a strategic
angle on an Oxford Hotel
window allowed the landlady
to see the Timeball Station
flagpole, and thus prepare for
thirsty arrivals.
During the night when flags
were not visible, messages were
relayed by Morse code using
carbide Aldis lamps.
In 1877, a telegraph connection
between Lyttelton Port and Little
Port Cooper was established,
followed in 1880 by a telephone
cable laid undersea from Te
Awaroa Godley Head to Little
Port Cooper, which was the first
of its kind in New Zealand.
• From page 19
In 1908, a jetty and boatshed
with winch were constructed
on the western side of the bay
to facilitate freight movement
and the comings and goings of
residents. A second signal station
was constructed in 1937;
only its foundations remain as
it was destroyed by fire in 1967.
Connections to Little Port
Cooper continue in Lyttelton
today – local Sue Fitzgerald,
is, to our knowledge, the last
child born in the bay.
Her birth in 1948 was
attended by her grandmother
Elsie Fosbender, and Hilda
Williams, registered nurse
and wife of signalman Peter
Williams.
Sue’s father, Leslie Fosbender
(Fos to all who knew him) was
one of the last signalmen to
ride his horse up the narrow
pack track to the signal station
to keep watch.
Life was still challenging
in the isolated bay in the
late 1940s – a launch from
Lyttelton would bring essential
supplies, but the families needed
to be fairly self-sufficient.
Gardens, fruit trees, cows and
chickens were tended, cooking
was done on coal ranges, butter
was churned and lighting
came from kerosene lamps.
Sue’s older sister Elizabeth
stayed in Lyttelton during the
week to attend school, travelling
to and from the bay by
launch – and on two occasions
spent unplanned nights on
Ōtamahua Quail Island and
Rīpapa Island, sheltering from
inclement weather.
All of the signalmen and
their families left the bay in
1949 when a distinctive new
black and white 16m tall radio
signal tower was built on Gladstone
Quay in Lyttelton.
The bay houses were removed
in the same year, leaving just
the sturdy schoolhouse and the
original stone signal station to
stand sentinel to nigh on a 100
years of signalling history.
Sue went on to spend her
primary school years in Lyttelton,
attended high school
in Christchurch, and raised
her family in Lyttelton with
husband John.
For many years they ran
the popular Deluxe Cafe (now
Coffee Culture) and J Voyce
and Co Ltd, ship provedores.
Sue has continued involvement
in the latter business
with her son Lewis, since
John’s passing in 2017. Her
volunteer work with Lyttelton
Community House has won
her respect and affection from
many. Our thanks to Sue and
also to Margaret Ricketts, for
her original interview.
Substantial overhaul for Nissan Pathfinder
ARMED WITH a raft of
across-the-board improvements
and a lot more style, the
latest iteration of the Nissan
Pathfinder should find the road
to success smoother than its
underwhelming predecessor.
It borrows some bits from
the old model including the
same 3.5-litre petrol V6, but the
change wand has been wielded
in enough places including an
emphatic styling overhaul, to
make a telling and compelling
difference. This Pathfinder
demands attention with its
strong, muscular appearance,
shorter front overhang, slimmer
pillars, C-shaped LED headlights
and a “floating” roofline.
The latter allows the use of
a two-tone paint job for the
first time. All these elements
transition the Pathfinder from a
large, dated and frumpy looking
SUV to one that’s modern,
contemporary with enough eye
candy to make it a bit of a
head-turner.
Now we’ve established it’s a
good looker what else is new?
A conventional nine-speed
automatic ,complete with wheelmounted
gear paddle shifters,
is teamed to an updated version
of Nissan’s well-proven 3.5-litre
direct-injection V6 petrol. It’s
see you later for the dithery and
Motoring with Bob Nettleton
droning CVT of the out going
model.
Seven drive and terrain
settings are available for the
all-wheel drive system. A new
innovation is Pro-PILOT
featuring semi-autonomous
driving. Safety is nailed in one,
thanks to 9 airbags, including
curtain bags spanning all three
rows of seats. Towing of braked
trailers up to 2700kg is made
safer and easier with a twomode
on-board trailer-stability
programme.
Sold here initially in 2022 as
a three model line-up, Nissan
NZ didn’t wait long to hit the
delete button on the entry level
ST. Instead they’ve opted for a
high spec line-up starting with
the $83,490 Ti. The lavishly
appointed Ti-L that was steered
out for this road test, is the
‘cherry on top of the cake’ model.
With its steepish pricing
the Pathfinder faces some stiff
competition in the forms of Ford
Everest and Toyota Highlander.
While the current Highlander
briefly offered a V6 petrol when
it was launched two years ago.
This was ditched months later,
as Toyota NZ upped the ante in
switching to low emisson hybrid
engines. A move that has paid
off, as cleaner greener SUVs of
this size are not that common yet
for less than $80K.
The engine’s maximum power
of 202kW is about the same as
the old model while the 340Nm
of torque is underdone in an
SUV of this size and weight.
Consequently, low-speed pulling
power suffers and isn’t as strong
as it needs to be to cope with
long punishing hill climbs
under load. This leads to the
transmission hunting between
gears in search of more power to
keep the vehicle moving along
at a respectable clip. At times all
nine gears the transmission has
at its disposal need to be called
into play to do their bit.
For the most part they cannot
fully mask the engine’s torque
deficiencies despite their best
efforts. The motor’s happy place
seems to be in the higher rev
range. Here it effortlessly brings
up the 6,500pm mark (and
beyond for those drivers brave
enough to test its rev extremities)
before the engine cut-out kicks
and plays the spoiler. The new
automatic does a masterly job of
cleverly shuffling its nine-gear
deck of cards and comes up
trumps most of the time. At
highway speeds the gearing is
high to keep engine revs and fuel
consumption low. To summon
a snappy burst of acceleration
to whisk past slower traffic, the
gearbox has to do a deep dive
down a couple of ratio to find
that extra oomph.
A large and welcoming cabin
looks and feels the real large
upmarket SUV deal. Comfort
is assured regardless of what
the weather is doing. Making
this happen is the excellent
tri-zone climate controlled
air-conditioning with air vents
all the way through to the back
row of seats. Rear sunshades do
a good job of reducing heat and
glare.
A huge 10.8-inch Head Up
Display is standard, projecting
key information, including
turn-by-turn satellite navigation
to keep the driver focused on
the road ahead. An upgraded
infotainment system has
integrated wireless Apple
CarPlay and wired Android
Auto, four USB charging points
plus two 12-volt outlets.
The test vehicle makes a
statement with wrap-around
ambient cabin lighting,
panoramic glass sunroof, 20-
inch alloys, plus underbody
protection. There’s the option
of captain’s chairs in the second
row (reducing seating capacity to
seven), ventilated front seats, and
a ‘smart’ rearview mirror with
switchable digital imagery.
There’s a comprehensive safety
package from Nissan’s Intelligent
Mobility Suite. Included is a
rearview camera, an Advanced
Drive-Assist instrument cluster,
LED dusk-sensing headlights
with high-beam assist. The latter
feature literally takes the tedious
task of dipping the vehicles lights
at night for on-coming traffic out
of the driver’s hands.
A well-sorted double wishbone
front suspension and an
independent multi-link rear end
with coils, brings a fair degree
of handling composure to the
road holding table. However, the
Pathfinder’s share size and 2000
plus kg kerb weight compromises
the vehicle’s handling at its
outer extremities. This comes to
the fore when driving on tight
twisty terrain which we have an
abundance of on our roads.
The laws of physics come out
to play increasing body roll in
these situations. Although still
manageable, you quickly get a
reality check on the vehicle’s
handling limitations. It isn’t
helped by light steering and is
seemingly tuned to meet the
tastes of the North American
market. Here demand remains
strong for big beefy petrol SUVs
in the mould of the Pathfinder.
To my mind, the latest Ford
Everest is the road-holding
benchmark model for our large
SUV market. Because it’s based
on the latest Ford Ranger Ute,
it has genuine ‘go anywhere’
off-road capabilities that are
superior to the Pathfinder. It’s
okay on ski field access road and
that type of driving but little
more with its average ground
clearance.
Wednesday October 11 2023 Bay Harbour News 31
Nestled atop Clifton Hill, Gethsemane Heights emerges as
Clifton’s newest and most enchanting subdivision, boasting
panoramic vistas of the estuary, bays, and the majestic
Southern Alps – a view that evolves with the passing
moments.
Spanning an expansive 863m² of gently sloping freehold
terrain, this canvas is yours to transform into the HOME of
your dreams. Position your abode thoughtfully to embrace
the views and bask in the sun’s warm embrace. 3 Loader
Lane stands as the quintessential platform to manifest your
vision.
The rhythms of everyday life flow effortlessly here; Sumner
village and beach lie just beneath the hill, a mere 15-
minute journey to the CBD, and a short drive to the
bustling Ferrymead shops. The lifestyle offered here is
unparalleled, and what better way to savor it than within
the haven you and your family will call your own.
Yet, circumstances have shifted for our owners. Their focus
now turns towards a renovation on their existing property,
rendering this section a surplus to their needs. Offers are
invited for consideration.
