Tea, bran rusks, bread, and other food
donated by concerned neighbours were
her main sources of nutrition. It’s clear
that she doesn’t care about food when
she’s in the kitchen. The previous stove
nook is now mostly ornamental and has
only little practical use. Helen’s nextdoor
neighbour since 1927, Mrs Tiny
Hartzenberg, said, ‘Helen discarded the
stove in the garden long ago.’
