“In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of 

God in Christ Jesus concerning you.”

Notice the verse doesn’t say give thanks “for” 

everything. It says “In” everything give thanks. 

Nancy Lee DeMoss did a study on gratitude and 

she concluded, “I’ve seen that if I am not 

ceaselessly vigilant about rejecting ingratitude 

and choosing gratitude, I all-too-easily get 

sucked into the undertow of life in a fallen world. 

I start focusing on what I don’t have that I want, 

or what I want that I don’t have. My life starts to 

feel hard, wearisome, and overwhelming.” She 

continued, “A lack of gratitude manifests itself in 

fretting, complaining, and resenting…Even in the 

most turbulent waters. Choosing gratitude 

rescues me from myself and my runaway 

emotions. It buoys me on the grace of God.” 

Could it be that our attitudes would change if we 

sincerely were grateful and thankful in all 

situations? If bitterness is in our life then there is 

a lack of thankfulness. 

The Bible tells us when we should give thanks. 

Give thanks all day. “It is good to give thanks to 

the Lord and to sing praises to Your name, O 

Most High; to declare Your lovingkindness in the 

morning, and Your faithfulness every night.” 

(Psalm 92:1-2) 

Give thanks whether eating or fasting. “The 

one who eats, eats in honor of the Lord, since 

he gives thanks to God, while the one who 

abstains, abstains in honor of the Lord and gives 

thanks to God.” (Romans 14:6, ESV) 

Give thanks for what God provides. “Since 

everything God created is good, we should not 

reject any of it but receive it with thanks.” (1 

Timothy 4:4, NLT) 

Give thanks in God’s presence. “Enter into His 

gates with thanksgiving, and into His courts with 

praise. Be thankful to Him, and bless His name.” 

(Psalm 100:4) 

Give thanks to God in prayer. “Continue 

earnestly in prayer, being vigilant in it with 

thanksgiving.” (Colossians 4:2) 

Give thanks in everything you do. “And 

whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the 

name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God 

the Father through Him.” (Colossians 3:17)

CHOOSE JOY! 

The holidays are here! My favorite time of 

year. Holidays can be joyous for most of us 

but for some it seems to be the most lonely 

time of year. It could be due to the loss of a 

loved one or a person just being all alone. 

As I write this I think of our first Thanksgiving 

and Christmas without Daddy. Then, as a few 

years went by we had to deal with the loss of 

my grandpa and grandma and eventually the 

loss of my precious Mom. With each loss the 

holidays became harder and more difficult to 

face. 

However, along the way God brought rays of 

sunshine into our family to help ease the loss. 

Greg came into our family the year after we 

lost Daddy. He made us laugh and was always 

willing to help out with things Mom and I 

couldn’t do. He and I were married in 1991- 

three days after Christmas. Then, three years 

later right before Thanksgiving God blessed 

our family with our sweet Ben. What a joy he 

was to my sweet Mama and Grandma and my 

sister. 

I remember that Christmas felt like Christmas 

again to all of us. We had so many wonderful 

Christmases watching Ben grow and learn. We 

had just celebrated Christmas the year we lost 

our sweet Mama. Mama kept Ben during the 

day while Greg and I worked so Mama was like 

another Mom to Ben. I’m SO glad Ben had 

those early years with his Granny ! Ben loved 

his Granny dearly and he was the light of her 

life. The night Mama passed away Ben was SO

upset. He cried for Granny to come home. 

Then as I explained to him where Granny 

was. I saw a calmness come over his face. 

Sometimes I think children and adults with 

special needs understand better than we do! 

Where there had been sadness it almost 

seemed there was joy and understanding 

now! Oh that we could have an 

understanding like that! 

If you are one of those who are dreading the 

holidays this year remember… God always 

sends sunshine along with the rain. We 

should be thankful and celebrate and 

remember the real reason we celebrate is the 

birth of our King and Savior! 

Below are some verses that will help. Read 

them and keep them close this year during 

the holidays. Happy Thanksgiving and 

wishing all of you a very Merry Christmas. 

Choose joy instead of sadness.❤

Estes 

So, what does a small-town girl that loves the 

Lord and just happens to sing a little look like? 

If you look her up on social media, it’s Chelsea 

Estes Music! A female soloist with a petite 

frame with a big voice and even bigger love of 

God. 

I was raised and still reside in Tazewell, TN. A 

beautiful town in Claiborne County that is near 

Cumberland Gap, where Tennessee, Kentucky, 

and Virginia meet. We have beautiful Norris 

Lake that welcomes literally thousands of 

visitors every year, have all four seasons, and 

small-town pride. It doesn’t get any better 

than that! 

My dad is a Baptist minister and has pastored 

most of my life. My brother and I was raised 

to prioritize the Lord and worship him. 

What a blessing that was! 

We are a musical family. My dad sang 

and played guitar in many groups when 

he was a young man. My mother has one 

of the most beautiful soprano voices I 

have ever heard. My brother gives Josh 

Turner an absolute run for his money. 

One of my fondest memories was sitting 

with either of my Mamaw’s and listening 

to them sing and praise the Lord. So, 

singing is in my blood! 

When I was preschool age, I would beg to 

sing just about whatever song they would 

let me, but I was often reminded, you 

can’t sing every Sunday, Chelsea!

I continued to sing in the children’s choir in 

our church and later serve in the Tri-State 

Youth Choir during my middle school and 

high school years. I dubbed myself as the 

wedding/funeral singer and am still happy 

to do so when honored to be asked. 

I had finished college and was working as a 

registered nurse when my mom 

approached me about my music. She 

encouraged me to do more and to seek 

the Lord’s will for what I should do with 

this talent HE blessed me with. 

I began working with a bluegrass artist, Mr. 

Steve Gulley. He and my mother were old 

school mates and friends. Steve mentored 

me, encouraged me, and most of all 

shared how important it was to guard my 

heart in the dog-eat-dog world of music. 

He produced my first album, “Who Will 

Stand for God?” and it released in Spring of 

2017. The gospel great, Mr. Les Butler, 

played the keyboard on that album and 

became an instant friend. Les has 

produced my last two albums, “Daughter 

of the King”that released in 2019, and my 

latest, “My God is Real” that released in 

2022. 

My music ministry has been blessed 

beyond what I could have ever imagined. 

The Lord has allowed me to reach people 

in all 50 states through Gospel and 

Christian Country Radio. I have sung on 

stages that were only dreams once upon a 

time and still can’t wait to see where God 

takes me! 

When I’m not singing, you can find me 

at home raising my own two beautiful, 

daughters of the king, Annalise and 

Noelle, with my husband, Josh. He is my 

“sound guy” and has always encouraged 

me. I want my daughters and ALL young 

ladies to know that God loves them!

Billy Walker 

Billy sang his first song, “I’ve Got More To Go 

To Heaven For” at the age of 2. He started 

playing drums for their family at age five, 

and around age 12 or 13, his family began 

singing out as a family group. One question I 

get frequently is, “Are you the country singer 

Billy Walker’s son?” To which I answer, “Yes, I 

am Billy Walker’s son, just not the one you 

are thinking of.” 

The Walkers had a lot of success towards the 

end of the family group’s retirement. Billy 

says the song “Holy Spirit Flow Through Me” 

is probably the song we’re most known for. 

We get a lot of requests to sing that song. 

Billy’s first solo single seems to be a 

favorite song among listeners and 

DJs, “Come Along With Me.” “Billy 

says his most successful single 

hands down is “The Gospel Truth”. It 

charted for three months, and was 

named best Gospel song of the year 

by The Josie Music Awards. 

Billy has been nominated and won 

several awards including:

asked Billy to share some final 

thoughts: 

“I love The Lord, and I’m honored to 

live out my calling. I have tried to be 

faithful to that calling in every 

circumstance. From the tough times, 

like after the bus accident where my 

Dad was killed, to the great times, I 

have always tried to walk with 

integrity and be gracious towards 

everyone I come in contact with.”

doing more “Walker Style” which is a 

melding of southern gospel, country 

and contemporary into a unique 

blend.”

the Hinsons. “I loved Michael English 

when he was with the Singing 

Americans, but when he became a 

solo artist, I just gravitated to the 

stylistic genius he displayed. I never 

tried to emulate Kenny or Michael 

because I felt, even at an early age, 

that there was only one Kenny, one 

Michael, and one Billy Walker. It was 

important to me to form my style and 

identity as a vocalist. While you may 

hear some similarities, it’s 100% Billy 

with a little bit of the salt and pepper 

in.”

about the year I’m in and the year to come. 

I catch myself rolling thoughts around like:

When I finally get that project done... 

When I get that taken care of... 

When I…When I… When I….. 

It’s then that I look down at the Bible verse 

in my daily planner: 

“In everything give thanks” – 

1 Thessalonians 5:18 

I’m then reminded to shift my focus on my 

gratitude's rather than my “When I’s”. 

Have you ever wished an entire season 

away waiting for the next one to come? You 

keep telling yourself whatever the thing is, 

it’s just around the corner. Be it an

achievement, accomplishment, 

relationship, position, etc. that fills the 

emptiness on the inside, it only raises yet 

another challenge, goal, vision, dream, 

etc. 

Culture tells us from every platform to 

gratify and treat yourself because you 

“deserve it.” Jesus said if you want to 

follow me, don’t treat yourself but deny 

yourself. For us to be His disciples, we 

cannot indulge ourselves. We must deny 

ourselves and take up our cross (dying to 

our own fleshly desires). Only when we 

do so can we truly follow Him. 

1 Corinthians 10:31 says “Whatever you 

do, do it for the glory of God.”

In 1 Corinthians 15:9-10 Paul tells us, “I 

worked harder than all of them-yet not I, but 

the grace of God that was with me.” 

We can work our hearts out, but if we are 

followers of Jesus, then it is by His grace that 

the Heavenly Father works through us, 

accomplishing what He wants to do. 

Paul was known for being “all in”, all there and 

doing it all for the glory of God. Have you ever 

observed that we don’t find in scripture Paul 

saying, “One day when I get out of prison I’ll 

get back to what I was called to do”? No, Paul 

chose to do whatever he had to do, in spite of 

his circumstances, for the glory of God. We 

can as well. 

God should be our starting point for 

everything that we do, not the “When I” 

thoughts. It is only with God that we can run 

every single step in life with purpose. 

So maybe you changing diapers, or making 

sales calls, or healing from a crushing 

disappointment, fighting to hold your 

marriage together, etc., seems without 

purpose. Whatever you do, do it with integrity 

and the heart of a servant. Make everything 

you do, done for the glory of God. Because 

that is only when you intentionally 

make the work done the reward of 

those “When I’s” you been chasing. 

The reward for us isn’t the 

promotions, fancy cars, dream 

vacations, or even being discovered. 

The reward isn’t out there somewhere. 

Nor is it something we occasionally 

accomplish. Rather it is what we do 

daily for the glory of God. The reward 

is when you’re grateful in the grind 

while living in, and working through, 

the process. 

The reward is right here and right 

now.

It was too late to be doing dishes but 

the thought of tackling the titanic 

mess in the morning was more than I 

was willing to pile onto tomorrow’s 

already large to-do list. I rolled up 

my sleeves, cranked the hot water, 

and got to work as my husband 

prepared to go to bed. 

Soon, I stood alone, in the soft glow 

of a single light above the sink. Like 

most women, I don’t particularly 

enjoy the mundane tasks of 

housekeeping and motherhood that 

include washing and drying and 

folding things. I can almost always 

think of something else I’d much 

rather be doing than chores. But as I 

stood alone in the solace of a 

sleepy house, I realized the blessing I 

was holding in my sudsy hands. 

What an abundance of things to eat 

from! What an abundance of food 

we had to eat that we’d dirtied this 

many dishes! My sodden washrag 

was one my sweet mother had 

knitted for me years ago. It was still 

as good as new, cleaning like a 

champ; a token of love that 

performed well beyond what one 

would think for a homemade 

washcloth. My soap bottle was 

practically brand new, and the good

stuff too (I wait three weeks to a 

month for it to go on sale), and it 

would last me a long time before I’d 

have to buy more. And the water 

was so hot, my hands were stinging. 

As I piled plate after pot after spoon 

after cup, I began to cry as I worked 

my way through the heap of 

heaven’s blessings. It was cold 

outside, but warm in my kitchen. I 

had a roof, and light, and warmth, 

and hot water, and soap, and food, 

and dishes, and a healthy family to 

enjoy a huge meal with, and we were 

all safe, and dry, and everybody but 

me was snuggled into a nice 

comfortable bed. I lifted both of my 

sudsy hands up as soapy water and 

salty tears splattered into the sink 

below. 

Thank you Lord, thank you Lord, for 

Your blessings on me!! 

Dirty dishes are a blessing. So are 

dirty clothes and dirty sheets and 

dirty carpets. When we feel 

overwhelmed by all the housework

that needs to be done, we need to be 

reminded God has provided us with all 

these things. They are so common and 

constant in our lives that we can be 

tempted to resent them, but we ought 

to be rejoicing that our barns are full of 

plenty and our larders are full. 

As we near Thanksgiving and 

Christmas, the work will increase, 

along with the dirty dishes. Let’s do all 

things joyfully, counting our blessings, 

instead of resenting our 

responsibilities. God has opened up the 

windows of heaven and dropped more 

handfuls on purpose than you or I could 

ever deserve. We are so blessed, and 

every dirty dish holds the evidence. 

“O give thanks unto the Lord; for He is 

good: for His mercy endureth for ever.”

A few weekends ago, my husband 

and I went to a wedding. I was being 

introduced, as “Jamie’s sister” and 

“Kelsie’s aunt.” Have you ever 

thought about how many titles you 

are known by? Mom, dad, sister, 

cousin, pastor, friend, or boss. Many 

people call them “hats” that we 

wear. But what about what you are 

known by? 

We’ve all heard of Alfred B. Nobel. 

Well, maybe you haven’t heard of 

him, but you’ve heard of what he 

created...the Nobel Prize. Nobel’s 

brother died and a newspaper wrote 

his obituary, but confused the 

brothers and he was actually 

reading his own. obituary. The 

newspaper article stated that he 

was a man who had made it 

possible to kill more people more 

quickly than anyone else who had 

ever lived. He realized this is not how 

he wanted to be known or to be 

remembered. 

An obituary gives who you are and 

what you are known by. It got me

thinking how I want people to 

remember me. I want to be 

remembered as the one who was a 

helper and who showed mercy to 

those in need. Actually, I want to be 

remembered as someone who was 

like Jesus. 

A song comes to mind that was sung 

by the Crabb family - “My King is 

Known by Love”. In the name of that 

song, it states who He is (King) and 

how he is known (love).
