A grant of $20,000 from the Kiwi Gaming Foundation will see the senior school’s football goals adorned with nets and rugby posts installed on the field. Said Elley: “I am hugely excited, it’s been a long process, and now, we can just see everything sitting in place. “The new campus will be ready and open for the first time to parents and students holding interviews on January 31, though we predict construction to be fully completed before Christmas.” STATE OF ART: Putahi Belfast School’s new senior site at 1B Treedale St. Rotary club supports mobile eye testing unit • By Sasha Watson THE ROTARY Club of Papanui is fundraising for a mobile eye testing unit for the South Island by running a raffle at Northlands Mall. The cost of the mobile eye unit project, which was launched by Rotary District 9999 with Blind Low Vision NZ, sits at the $400,000 mark. Said Rotary public image coordinator for New Zealand and the Pacific Liz Courtney: “The mobile van will cost $180,000. “Then it will need to be customised to fit in the specialist equipment, which will cost another $200,000.” Said Blind Low Vision chief executive John Mulka: “Early detection and screening are key to prevent vision loss, so the aim is to have the mobile unit on the road by mid-2024 to offer rural communities free eye health checks.” To date, rotary clubs have raised $50,0000 towards the project. The Papanui raffle will finish at the end of November, with the winner being drawn on December 2.
