Matt Dooceyishumbled to be sworn in
as aMinister in Cabinet working under
Prime Minister Chris Luxon.
‘‘It is areal privilege and I am
excited to have been sworn in, and to
be sitting around the Cabinet table
with my colleagues making decisions
that will impact all New Zealanders,’’
the Waimakariri MP says.
Mr Doocey was sworn in on Monday
by Governor General Dame Cindy Kiro
at Government House, as New
Zealand’s first Minister of Mental
Health, Minister of Tourism and
Hospitality, Ministerfor Youth,
Minister of ACC, and associate
Minister of Health andTransport.
He says beingthe first Minister of
Satisfy passionate about everything it does
From Page 1
Satisfy is justly proud of its
collaboration with so many
organisations who all work together to
redirect food away from landfill to
those who need it most.
‘‘It is amazing what is happening,’’
says Fran.
Everyone was proud to have their
work recognised at the awards, and
being arunner up in the People’s
Choice category, as acharity, was the
icing on the cake.
Mental Health was something he had
advocated for ‘‘quite openly’’ over the
past few years while in Opposition.
He now had the opportunity to
provide avoice, and take responsibility
for some of New Zealand’s most
vulnerable citizens.
As Minister ofTourism and
Hospitality Mr Doocey says the
Government will‘‘obviously be
deliveringonour commitment on
staffing in the first instance’’.
With hospitality beingadded for the
first time to the portfolio, it was
importantfor National to give it
priority.
Tourism andhospitality had gone
through alot, particularly during the
Covid pandemic, and he would look at
how to support both sectors and ensure
they could attract good workers.
‘‘We are so passionate about what we
all do. To be recognised was
emotional. We are extremely
grateful.’’
The rapidly expanding enterprise is
not resting on itslaurels.
It has just raised $31,392 to help
build what could be New Zealand’s
first purposebuilt food rescue facility
in Kaiapoi.
Atotal of $21,092 has been raised on
aGivealittle page forworking
drawings for the building, planned in
Mr Doocey says he is comfortable
with the hospitality sector being
included in the portfolio with his
father Tom Doocey having been ahotel
manager, and having grown up working
in hospitality in his younger years.
Mr Doocey was joined by his wife
Viki, children Emily and James, and
his parents Tom and Joan Doocey for
the ceremony.
‘‘It was really nice to share the
swearing in ceremony with family,’’ he
says.
‘‘I would like to thank the
Waimakariri voters. You have allowed
me to have this amazing opportunity,’’
Mr Doocey says.
This would allow him to help address
moving New Zealand forward for the
betterment of the Waimakariri region
and the country.
Stewarttook the total to over $30,000.
