In the summer of 1995, I sold The Blues newspaper
to GL “Buddy” Williams, a former Sergeant
with the Houston Police Department, who was
also the newspaper’s editor at the time. Buddy and
later his daughter, were the perfect custodians of
The BLUES. They continued the tradition for another
22 years until May of 2018 when Buddy announced
they had published their last issue of The
BLUES Police Newspaper. By the time the last page
rolled off the press, 397 issues had been produced
and read an estimated 8 million times by cops
throughout Texas. Dozens and dozens of tributes
had been written for fallen officers, and hundreds
of war stories had been published recounting the
everyday lives of cops, just doing their jobs, day in
and day out.
