blue cloth with gilt vignette to lower corner of upper
board and gilt text to spine. In dust jacket.
Jacket very lightly creased to spine ends. Small nick to
upper edge of jacket upper panel. Small rubber name
stamp to upper corner of title page. A very near fine copy!
Jonathan Burke [1922 – 2011] was the working
name of the English writer John Frederick Burke, who
wrote SF and fantasy under his own name as well
as J F Burke and Robert Miall. During the early
1950s he wrote numerous science fiction adventure
novels and his short stories appeared regularly in all
of the leading SF magazines, most notably in New
Worlds and Authentic Science Fiction.
”Harrison got to the hotel less than ten minutes after the
manager had visio’d him. Two men followed him in, one
of them sauntering casually across to the desk and giving
no sign of recognition.
Twenty yards away the squad car hummed a throbbing
note as it generated the screen which would impenetrably
surround the hotel until Harrison had finished.
The man at the desk said: “Room with a bath for two days.”
“Earth atmosphere, sir?” said the desk clerk.”

post-fanfare style with fan-shaped inner corner-pieces,
central arms of Cardinal Altieri stamped in silver over a
gilt cardinal’s shield (originally with a blank centre), spine
elaborately gilt in compartments, gilt edges, traces of
red silk ties,
