«Rosmersholm» was published in 1888 and was not very
well received by contemporary reviewers. The play is
considered to be the last of Ibsen’s plays in which politics
plays a significant role in shaping the character and fate
of the characters.
The play evolves around, Johannes Rosmer, the owner of
Rosmersholm, and Rebekka West, who believes she can
help him create a world of happy noble people.
”The Rosmerian view of life ennobles [...] - but it kills
happiness.” (Rebekka West, Act Four)
