William Carlos Williams [1883-1963]: One of the most
influential poets of the twentieth century. James Laughlin
[1914-1997]: The founder of New Directions, publisher
and editor of the modernists. The correspondance they
began in 1933 continued for thirty years during which
they were on the cutting edge of the literary vanguard.
The Selection of almost 150 letters is informatively annotated
by Hugh Whitmeyer, professor of English at the
University of New Mexico and author of the important
study «The poetry of Ezra Pound: Forms and Renewal
1908-1920». This is only the second major collection of
William’s letters ever published.
