Te Whare ManaakiStudentsPakeke<br />
Lions DayOut<br />
Annually the <strong>Ashburton</strong> Pakeke Lions Club sponsor an outing for<br />
College’s Te Whare Manaaki students, and this year was noexception,<br />
with the outing taking place on Tuesday 28November, at The Plains<br />
Vintage Railway and Historical Museum.<br />

and caughtbubbles,<br />
and even had avisit<br />

the outing, and we<br />
thank those who gave<br />
thetime to making<br />
them.<br />

Junior Sports Week<br />
In our previous newsletter we gave ataster to this week held from<br />
Monday 20November-Thursday 23November. This week was apost-<br />
Covid initiative of Sport South Canterbury and has become afirm<br />
favourite forstudents and staff throughout the Aoraki region.<br />

Darion Gray gives us some details relatedtothisweek and the activities<br />
held.<br />
Overall College had 140-plus students involved, with exposure toover<br />
twenty activities,and atotal of 725kmtravelled.<br />
Theactivities over the week encompassed Beach DayonMonday, Touch on<br />
Tuesday, WaimateDay on Wednesdayand Volleyball on Thursday.<br />
Mondayand Wednesdaywerenon-competitivefun events,while Touch and<br />
Volleyball were competitive events. We take alook at each of these days<br />
now.<br />
Caroline BayBeachDay<br />
At Caroline Bay Park teams participated insignificant rotations of<br />
activitiesinthe parkand on the beach, being:<br />
• Rugby Invasion Game<br />
• Riddle Solving and PhotoTask<br />
• BeachVolleyball<br />
• ITe Tīmatanga (Rhythmical and Mental Abilitygame,undertaken in pairs<br />
to help develop counting inMāori while keeping arhythm, action and<br />
amp)<br />
• Hula Hoop Challenge<br />
• Relay<br />
• Poi Toa, as shown in lastweek’s newsletter.<br />
• Charades<br />
• Memory<br />
• Music and amp<br />
• Skipping<br />
• Sponge and amp<br />
• Noodle<br />
Sharing the beach with passengers from the cruise ship meant the visitors<br />
were very interested in what was happening, which made for many<br />
conversions and explanations.<br />
Darion said that our rangitahi managed themselves extremely well and,<br />
with the aid of amap,navigated the park finding the various stations in the<br />
correctorder and in atimely manner.Itwas describedasfun forall!<br />
A‘Shout Out’ was given to Alex for his Double Dutch Skipping score of 84<br />
and, despite itnot being acompetitive day, seemingly the AshColl team<br />
came outontop overall!<br />

After ajoint lunch, venues were swapped and the College team spent the<br />
afternoon at theWaimateEvent Centre.<br />
At this venue students self-managed the choices of 3x3Basketball,Rollerblading<br />
and Badminton.<br />
Rock Climbing was on offer with experienced instructors. Over half of the<br />
College group, many outside their comfort zone, gave this awhirl, with all<br />
reachinggoals or exceeding goals,whichwas such athrill to watch.<br />

Waimate Day<br />
One hundred-plus participants enjoyed this day on Wednesday<br />
22 November in Waimate, with College team members transported<br />
by Kairuruku Hākinakina |Sports Co-ordinator Darion Gray and School<br />
Transport Manager and Teacher Relief Co-ordinator Mandy Harrison, with<br />
appreciation to her forher support as driver and helper forthe day.<br />
Team members for the day were -Curtis Bayston, Jack Bennett, Lucy Boldy,<br />
Sophie Braas, Abby Cochrane, Kate Cochrane, Tia Double, Isla Gilbert,<br />
Chloe Graham, Addison Judd, Alex Kenure-Blackler, Macy Lewis-West,<br />
Oakley McKenzie, Kate Rickard, Sawyer Skilling and LauraStanley.<br />
The morning was spent atVictoria Park having agoatFrisbee Golf.There<br />
were plenty of volunteers on hand to offer tips,explaining techniques and<br />
the different typesoffrisbee to get the bestdistanceand flight.<br />
