Corporate fight night entertains<br />

The glitz and glamour of aLas<br />
Vegas boxing fight night came<br />
to Methven’sMtHutt Memorial<br />
Hall on Friday, courtesy of Rí<br />
Rá Events.<br />
The Catalyst Performance<br />
Agronomy Battle of the Alps<br />
Corporate Fight Night was the<br />
night many locals had been<br />
working towards, training three<br />
sessions each week to be ready<br />
to go head to head in the ring.<br />
The event was asellout with<br />
more than 300 spectators<br />
gathering at the hall to watch<br />
the entertainment, which<br />
featured aspecial guest<br />
appearance from Shane<br />
Cameron.<br />
The former Commonwealth<br />
Cruiser Champion was making<br />
his fourth visit out of the six fight<br />
night events held to date.<br />
Cameron called the Battle of<br />
the Alps anext level corporate<br />
boxing event in terms of the<br />
standard of the production and<br />
the standard of boxing on show.<br />

boxing events I’ve attended,’’<br />
Cameron said.<br />
Emcees on the night were<br />
Dame Lynda and Dame Jools<br />
Topp. There was an interval with<br />
acharity auction, raising money<br />
for Kai for Kids and Methven<br />
Football Club.<br />
There were nine fights in total<br />
over the course of the evening,<br />
each consisting of three rounds a<br />
piece to determine the winner.<br />
All the competitors taking part<br />
were either local to <strong>Ashburton</strong><br />
or Methven, except for Ben<br />
Dowdal from Burnham Boxing<br />
Club and Chase Haley from<br />
Otipoki Boxing Club in Dunedin.<br />
Rí Rá Events spokesperson<br />
Gary Manning said it was an<br />
absolutely amazing night,<br />
certainly the best one yet.<br />
“There seems to be ahuge<br />
hunger for this type of event, and<br />
it was pleasing to see amuch<br />
younger demographic attend,”<br />
Manning said.<br />
With it being such abusy<br />
schedule over the past few<br />
months the organisers have yet<br />
to sit down and discuss another<br />
future fight night, although<br />
Manning added they have been<br />
encouraged with the interest of<br />
potential boxers wanting to give<br />
it agoifthey do.<br />
