Whale Beach) to bottom.
Beginning at Avalon Beach
Surf Life Saving Club, this walk
will take you over Bilgola Head
to Bilgola Beach and around
the southern headland to
Newport Beach. Past Bungan
Castle, the walk drops down
Mona Vale Headland to
Bongin Bongin, Mona Vale
and Warriewood beaches,
Turimetta Head and beach,
Narrabeen Head, Narrabeen
Lagoon and finishes at
Crown to the Sea,
Newport
Linking four bushland reserves
between Newport and Bilgola
Plateau this challenging walk
has it all. Starting at the
Crown of Newport reserve,
walkers take on a 300-metre
moderate/steep trek under
the canopy of a rainforest
with its rare plants, waterfalls
and wildlife before moving
into the Attunga Reserve, a
1000-metre strenuous steep
climb with incredible coastline
views, followed by an easy
walk, through Porter Reserve
winding into Kanimbla Reserve
overlooking Newport. All up
it’s roughly 1.7 kilometres and
takes 1-2 hours.
Narrabeen
Coastal Walk
Start this walk at North
Narrabeen pool; it’s a lovely
way to take in the wonder of
the area. Start by climbing
up the steps to arrive at
Turimetta headland. There
are a few tracks to choose
from. The lookout overlooking
North Narrabeen beach is
stunning. You can take the
path all the way along to Mona
Vale headland (about 3.2
kilometres) which will take you
around 45 minutes.
Anembo Reserve
Walk and Trail
Anembo is an Aboriginal
word meaning “quiet place”,
and peace and tranquility
is what you will experience.
Surrounded by Ku-ring-gai
Chase National Park on three
sides, this ridgetop reserve
includes 22 hectares of native
vegetation providing habitat
for several threatened species.
Starting at Anembo Road,
Duffys Forest this mediumgraded
2-kilometre walk will
take 30-45 minutes along a
formed track with no steps.
Locals’ Tip: Be mindful of
giving way to horses.
Deep Creek Trail
Starting at the Deep Creek
Reserve, the 5.5-kilometre loop
by creeks and waterfalls can
get rocky and slippery at times
but is generally considered
an easy track which takes on
average one and a half hours
to complete. It does get busy –
be prepared to share with trail
runners and mountain bikers.
Resolute Loop Walk
The Resolute Loop track lies
at the far end of West Head.
You can catch a ferry from
Palm Beach to Great Mackerel
Beach Wharf and proceed
north along the beach to enter
the bushland track in the
National Park, do a loop and
finish back where you started
where you can cool down
with a swim. It’s considered
a moderate walk with steep
sections and stairs. There are
numerous lookouts and the
best of the historic Aboriginal
art in the Ku-ring-gai Chase
National Park along the way.
It’s about a 6-kilometre loop;
plan it as a day trip to allow
for relaxing and swimming
stops.
West Head Army track
A must-do trek for fit history
buffs, you will be following
in the steps of World War II
soldiers climbing down the
challenging West Head army
track to a historic army battery
where Sydney’s Broken Bay
was protected from possible
invasion. The restored track
can be accessed from the West
Head lookout car park. Some
parts are so steep you’ll be
scaling ladders. Set aside 1-1.5
hours.
