FISHING
There is an abundance of
recreational fishing spots
around Pittwater with options
for all levels and experience.
Here are some local fishing tips
to take on board.
Yellowtail Kingfish – Hotspots
include the moorings from
Stokes Point all the way past
Clareville. Also try moorings
around Scotland Island plus
the current line between Palm
Beach Wharf and Mackerel
Beach.
Flathead – Best areas are
along sand drop-offs and the
convergence of sand and weed
or sand and rock.
Bream – Fish in areas close to
structures such as wharves or
rocky headlands with ample
tidal flow.
Narrabeen Lagoon
Common species in the main
lagoon are whiting, bream and
flathead. Occasionally large
mulloway, tailor and even
salmon make their way through
the entrance of the lagoon from
the ocean to feed on the large
schools of mullet and other
baitfish that are present.
Rock fishing
The rocky platform around
Barrenjoey Head from the
northern end of Station
Beach to the northern end
of Palm Beach and the whole
foreshore from the south end
of Turimetta Beach to the rock
baths at Narrabeen Head are
classified as Aquatic Reserves.
Within aquatic reserves, you
can line fish and spearfish
(subject to normal restrictions)
and collect rock lobster, sea
lettuce and bait weed. It is
prohibited to collect cunjevoi
and all invertebrates (dead or
alive) including anemones,
barnacles, chitons, cockles,
crabs, mussels, octopus, pipis,
sea urchins, starfish, snails
and worms, and empty shells.
This includes a prohibition
on the killing of cunjevoi or
invertebrates to feed fish.
PICNIC SPOTS
AND KIDS PLAY
Apex Park
Apex Park is across the road
from Mona Vale beach and a
popular spot for families. It has
a huge bike path for the kids to
ride around plus a playground
and BBQ areas.
Bert Payne Reserve
A handy spot for a picnic or to
