Cognac

Brandy is an alcoholic beverage made from the wines or
fermented mashes of other fruits and is commonly identified by
the specific fruit name.
Cognac is a variety of brandy named after the commune of
Cognac, France. It is produced in the surrounding wine-growing
region in the departments of Charente and Charente-Maritime.
The region and the beverage cognac has a long history and
involves all kind of nations, merchants, kings and aristocrats,
natural catastrophes, wars and cold winters. Despite all this,
cognac kept getting better and better, century after century.
Cognac is also popular in Nordic countries – there are some
quite important medium-sized cognac producers, such as Larsen,
Braastad and Otard originated from Scandinavia.

X.O., Napoléon, Extra: at least 10 years
V.S.O.P., Réserve: at least 4 years, usually 5–15 years
V.S. at least 2 years, usually 3–7 years
