Vodka
“There’s no absolutes in life, only vodka.”
– Mick Jagger
Vodka is made by distilling starches, such as rye, wheat, sorghum,
and corn, but can also be made from potatoes, molasses and more.
Depending on the country where the vodka is made, the history of
its production will vary. Some countries produce vodka specifically
with certain substances, while others will vary their products.
After the distillation process, the vodka is usually filtered, and
occasionally, flavored.
The history of vodka spans across many Northern and Eastern
European countries including Russia and Poland. Each country
produces vodka in different ways with varying alcohol content,
and it has been in constant progression from the 14th century all
the way to the 21st century. While the history of vodka is rich, every
country around the world now enjoys vodka for how commonly
known it’s become.
One of the most popular vodkas sold on board our ships is Absolut
Vodka, whose history dates back to 1879, when it was first produced
in a small village called Åhus in Southern Sweden. Absolut practices
a One Source production philosophy, meaning that all of their
production takes place in and around the village of Åhus.
