Several student members played the new instrument
while refreshments were served. The Milwaukee Chapter
extended an invitation to the Chicago Chapter to
attend its next important meeting in Milwaukee.
MEMPHIS

The Fall meeting of the Memphis Harp Chapter was
held on Friday, Sept. 21, I 97 3, in the home of the President,
Linda Wilson. New members and guests were
introduced, and the goals and purposes of the AHS were
emphasized. Plans for the National Harp Competition
were announced, and local Chapter committees were
appointed by the President. Marian Jackson, a new
member, spoke about her musical experiences in Europe
as a student, and solos were performed by Barbara
Wehlan and Elizabeth Cobb.
The Chapter harpists have enjoyed a busy fall and
winter season, giving many types of performances.
Frances Phillips played the Introduction and Allegro
by Ravel at Memphis State University. The Britten
Ceremony of Carols was performed by the Southwestern
College Singers, with Elizabeth Cobb, harpist. Linda
Wilson played for both Memphis Opera Theatre productions
of Tosca with John Alexander and Salome
with Klara Barlow. Marian Jackson was the harpist for
MOT's Tales of Hoffmann in November. Marian also
won the Concerto Competition and will perform Handel's
Concerto in B Flat with the MSU Orchestra on
April 24. In the Fall, Agnes Crisci, harp instructor and
past Chapter President, organized a harp ensemble,
composed of student Chapter members. Performances
were given in December with the Ridgeway High
School Chorus and repeated twice on television. Those
participating were Leigh Cheatham, Grace Glenn,
Heather Holmes, Carolyn Mills, Cindy Wellman, and
Barbara Wehlan. A Spring ensemble program is planned
for April.
A highlight for this area was the performance in November
of Marjorie Tyre, guest artist with the Memphis
State String Quartet in Harris Music Auditorium. She
was featured in the Debussy Danses and Ravel Introduction
and Allegro. Miss Tyre has been appointed
Director of Regions for the AHS.
LOUISIANA

The second year of the Louisiana Chapter is proving
to be an exciting one. Four more new members joined
us during the course of the fall, including Nowell Daste,
Bryan Gray, Charles Libbey and Garry Savoie.
We have been pleased to hear from "our gal in
France," Reinnette Morin, who is attending the University
of Strasbourg on a Rotary International Foundation
Scholarship. She reports that she has been able to make
arrangements to get in some harp work and that the
people at the Conservatory have been most gracious to
her.
Several area musicians joined six members in an
