STUDENT PROJECTS Student projects provide a good example of how to ensure community work results in community benefit. These projects are carried out within the framework of MCC, driven by students’ own intrinsic motivations. Projects include study competitions, conferences, or even a two-week international summer university, and many of them are social responsibility movements and events. In each case, the starting point is a students’ idea which is then implemented through their own efforts, under the close supervision and support of the Collegium. Projects are completed through teams of students that seek donors, carry out marketing activities, and perform operational tasks. A good project plan sets ambitious but achievable goals. Students are encouraged to submit proposals that are of great personal importance to them. Corvin Charity Ball The Corvin Charity Ball is one of MCC’s most popular and long-standing student projects. Organized every year, it has grown into a beloved tradition at MCC. Each year, the gala raises funds for a specific charity. Additionally, it also raises students’ awareness of social responsibility and charity while providing them with quality and culturally enriching entertainment. MCChess MCChess promotes chess both as a sport and a hobby. On the first Sunday of every month, organizers welcome any chess-loving student to a friendly tournament or practice. The crown jewel of the project is the annual charity chess tournament where proceeds from the registration fees are donated to a charity important to the students. 52
National High School Problem Solving Competition At this competition, organized in partnership with the organization CaseSolvers, high school students work through historical situations using case study tools. The event has grown into one of the major history competitions in Hungary. High school students can apply as a team, and once they have made it through online and regional rounds, they can compete in the final tournament for the grand prize, which is usually a study trip abroad. Bonus Intra A well-established tradition at MCC, this history competition for high school students is held every year, focusing on exciting historical themes chosen by the organizers. Significant historical anniversaries and figures are always a major theme. In this three-round competition, high school students compete as individuals, and in addition to their subject knowledge and historical literacy, they need to demonstrate their strategic and creative thinking and communication skills. The winner of the competition will automatically gain admission to MCC’s Junior Training Program. 53
