Roadblocks with your Ideal Retirement? Are you facing roadblocks with your ideal retirement? Are you worried that you won’t have enough money?Are you ill or you have to provide care for a special someone. Why are you putting it off? A friend of mine asked me the other day how old are you? I said 67, they said no way you look so young. I commented I like to keep busy. Running a business keeps your mind active and your body moving. What things have been calling you? What gives you energy? Then do it. Start thinking about what you want from retirement. Keep a journal of your goals, aspirations and to do list. That means visualizing your ideal day. Where are you living? What are you doing? Are you gardening, playing pickleball, volunteering 2 days a week. What is your schedule? Who are you spending your time with? Your wife, partner, friends? The older we get, the more life experiences we will have had, and the more things stored in our brains. One thing you cannot store in that cranium of yours is all the things you have to consider when starting a new venture later in life. Many times in my years of teaching entrepreneurship I have heard (always from men) “It’s all up here”, while tapping the side of their heads. Yeah right! Even a simple business plan will have covered: your idea clearly stated, your goals, any market research you have done to identify target market(s), your competition and competitive advantage, all the laws and regulations and licenses required for your idea, legal structure, insurances, tax requirements, how much you need to pay yourself, pricing structure including costs of doing business, start-up expenses and projected cash flow, when/how you might get any money required to get going, and possibly more. Without this, all that stuff in your head gets jumbled, forgotten, glossed over, or ignored! If it was even there in the first place. There are many free business plan templates and examples on the Internet. (Only use Canada-based ones). Or I can send you a very simple fill-in-theblanks template, with Financial templates and Senior-Preneurship WHY YOU NEED EVEN A SIMPLE BUSINESS PLAN an example of a simple Executive Summary. Or you can enroll in my upcoming Senior-preneur workshop scheduled for April, both in person and virtual. Then we’ll take what’s in your head, and put it on paper.
