Cody Cave Tours
Your Adventure Tour begins by exploring the
spectacular entrance chambers then rappel
down the 40ft Cody Falls downward to the terminal
sump. We ascend Cody Falls by ladder
and continue upstream observing the geology
and glacial effects on the cave environment. At
the ancient boulder choke you will see the effects
of calcite cementation on the once loose
boulder pile. From here you will continue
Nestled along the shores of Kootenay Lake,
Balfour is a small but vibrant community,
offering multitudes of opportunity
for the avid hiker, biker,
golfer, boater and fisherman.
Coffee Creek
There is no highway
sign, but if you're driving
from Kaslo to Nelson,
you will have plenty
of warning that you are
approaching this Kootenay
Lake Provincial
Park. If you're slowing
down to 50 km per hour
and hugging a rock bluff
on your right side, with
Kootenay Lake straight
down from the cliff on
your left side, you’re
almost there. Pull in at
the Hydro substation
and park. It might take
a minute or two to spot
the trail leading down to
where Coffee Creek empties into Kootenay Lake.
Your reward is a secluded beach with great views
and good fishing.
Fishing
Kootenay Lake has some of the best fishing in
Canada. You can fish by boat, kayak or canoe
with bucktail streamers on the surface or plugs
down deep. Or cast from shore with spoons and
jigs. There are three different types of rainbows
in Kootenay Lake: Mykiss, Kamlooper and the
world renowned Gerrard rainbow with sizes
ranging from 1 to 20 lbs! Not to be outdone
is the bull trout or what the locals call dollies.
They are great to eat or smoke up for later and
range from 1 to 15 lbs.
In Kaslo, you can buy fishing tackle at Kane's
Landing Corner Store, A Avenue and Washington
Street in Upper Kaslo. Woodbury Resort can
also help you get set up, from a boat to tackle to
advice. Jones Boys Boats rents boats as well, and
you can rent canoes or kayaks at the Adventure
Centre on Front Street in Kaslo.
