Technology and connectivity
is so very important
in this day and age.
Luckily, Kaslo has access
to a fibre network that is as
good as it gets. The Kaslo infoNet Society (KiN) is
a Kaslo-based nonprofit Internet Service Provider
(ISP) that is unique in Canada. Despite challenging
terrain each subscribing home or business is connected
to the Internet with high speed fibre cable,
at costs below
that charged by
the major telecom
companies.
Expansion of
the system continues
each year,
replacing existing
wireless service
with much
higher capacity
fibre and serving
homes that
wireless Internet
can’t reach.
New residents
of the area are
finding they can
have well-paid
urban-based employment
while
enjoying life in a clean and picturesque environment.
Our high-speed internet makes working
from home possible.
As Internet has become an essential service, KiN
has been working continuously to improve reliability
of its system, even during power outages.
With the installation of a large generator, the Kemball
building offices enjoy power during outages.
In addition to high speed and reliable internet,
subscribers have access to the Voice-over-Internet
telephone service at a fraction of the cost charged
by telephone companies, and video conferencing
running on a local server. Monitoring of essential
services such as water systems and security equipment
are recently added features of KiN’s fibre
network.
(KLIC) The Kootenay Lake Innovation Centre
has a work-sharing space in the Kemball. The notfor-profit
society designs and implements programs
that serve the community, both here and
worldwide online, like last year's impressive live
music series organized in conjunction with the
Langham Cultural Society.
