Library’s <strong>March</strong> calendar packed with activities<br />

Houston Library is located at 5 W. Jamestown St., South<br />

Charleston. For details about events and programming, call (937)<br />

• Make & Take Beginning Sewing. By appointment only. Instructor<br />

Connie Andrews is available to teach basic machine and<br />

hand-sewing skills so that participants can complete a simple project<br />

to take home. Anyone who took the January and February<br />

classes can schedule an appointment to learn more. Have your own<br />

portable sewing machine but don’t know how to use it? Schedule an<br />

appointment with Connie.<br />

Classes are free and open to adults, teenagers, and children ages<br />

9-12 with a parent or caregiver present with each child. The library<br />

provides supplies and sewing machines, or you can bring your own<br />

machine. Each adult participant must sign a waiver before participating<br />

in the first class. Children and teenagers must have a parent<br />

sign the waiver. Call the library branch manager at (937) 462-8047<br />

to schedule an appointment.<br />

• Yoga for Beginners. This class for adults is taking place at<br />

10:30 a.m. on Tuesdays in <strong>March</strong> (plan to arrive a few minutes<br />

early). Most poses will include modification options for various fitness<br />

levels. Participants must sign waivers before participating in<br />

the first class. Connie Andrews, a library staff member (not a certified<br />

instructor), will lead the class. Participants should wear loosefitting<br />

clothing and bring a mat or a couple of large towels.<br />

• Busy Bookworms Storytime. This storytime<br />

for ages 2 and older takes place at 11<br />

a.m. Thursdays through May 9. Toddlers<br />

and preschoolers are introduced to books,<br />

rhymes, music, and crafts.<br />

• Lego Club. The club meets 3:30-5 p.m.<br />

the second and fourth Mondays of the<br />

month. The club is open to school-age children.<br />

The library provides the Legos. Creations<br />

remain on display at the library<br />

between sessions. The next two sessions are<br />

<strong>March</strong> 11 and <strong>March</strong> 25.<br />

• Line Dancing for Beginners. Dance instructor<br />

Connie Andrews will teach basic<br />

steps to a variety of music genres at 6:30 p.m.<br />

<strong>March</strong> 14. The class is open to adults only.<br />

• Breakfast Snack with the Easter<br />

Bunny. All ages are invited to visit the library<br />

at 10:30 a.m. <strong>March</strong> 16 to spend time<br />

with the Easter Bunny. Plans include a<br />

light breakfast snack, stories, games, crafts,<br />

an Easter treat, and pictures with the guest<br />

of honor. (Rice Krispie treats, which contain<br />

milk, will be served. Anyone with a dairy allergy<br />

is welcome to bring their own snack.)<br />

• Bubble Fun. All ages are invited to stop<br />

by the library at 4 p.m. <strong>March</strong> 18 to celebrate<br />

National Bubble Week with a halfhour<br />

of everything bubbles.<br />

• Adult Reading Discussion. At 6:30<br />

p.m. <strong>March</strong> 19, the group will discuss “The<br />

Patron Saint of Second Chances” by Christine<br />

Simon. The self-appointed mayor of a<br />

tiny Italian village is determined to save his<br />

hometown no matter the cost in this charming<br />

farce that highlights the triumphs of<br />

hope and community. Copies of the book are<br />

available at the library’s circulation desk.<br />

• Help the Easter Bunny Find His Eggs.<br />

Children ages 2-12 are invited to search for<br />

eggs hidden in the children’s room, then remove<br />

the tape from the back and add the<br />

Austen’s songbooks on <strong>March</strong> 23 at Houston Library.<br />

• Tunes and Expressions: Favorite Songs of the Inimitable<br />

Jane Austen. Adults and teens are invited to watch and listen to<br />

this musical program presented by musicians of Lafferty Pike at 2<br />

p.m. <strong>March</strong> 23. In addition to being an author, Jane Austen was a<br />

pianist, singer, and music aficionado. Her personal songbooks contain<br />

a treasure trove of Regency Era music curated by Jane herself.<br />

The musicians of Lafferty Pike will present selections from Austen’s<br />

collection, including comic operas, hymns, dances, instrumental<br />

showpieces, and romantic ballads. Travel back in time and enjoy<br />

the sounds of harp, violin, and guitar.<br />

• Foster Care Information Session. On <strong>March</strong> 26, 6-7 p.m.,<br />

learn about foster care and becoming a licensed foster caregiver.<br />

There is an urgent need for foster families in Ohio. The number of<br />

youth in foster care is more than double the number of licensed foster<br />

families currently accepting placements. Licensing professionals<br />

from the National Youth Advocate Program will introduce the basics<br />

of foster care, provide step-by-step instructions for getting licensed,<br />

and outline the benefits of being a licensed foster caregiver.<br />
