Subdivision
linked to
Halswell
road closure
• From page 1
“Subject to resource consent,
the southern part of Milns Rd
will be realigned through the
subdivision. As part of that work,
the existing southern section will
be closed.
“The anticipated
timeframe is May
2026. However,
this is dependent
upon private
development and
outside of the
Stephen
Wright
council’s control.”
Implementation
will be covered
by a private
development agreement between
the city council and the developer,
and will align with Long Term
Plan capital projects.
A report on the new road,
which was discussed at the
community board meeting,
follows two briefings in
September 2022.
It said the city council will likely
only have this opportunity, as
once the land is developed there
will be no practical alternative
solution to the problems being
experienced at the intersection.
When community, culture
and cuisine converge
COLOURFUL FLAGS and
traditional garments were
on show at Arvida Mayfair
village’s international food and
dance event last week.
The Upper Riccarton
retirement community
has more than 22 different
nationalities represented by its
residents and team members,
and the event was a celebration
of diversity and inclusion.
Arvida Mayfair village
manager Vicky Knipe said
more than 80 people enjoyed
the day, including residents’
families.
“The centrepiece was the
large display of flags that were
actually sewn together by one
of our residents. It represented
our diverse backgrounds that
come together to form our
community.”
A haka, traditional Nepalese
and Filipino dances, classical
Indian dance, a Japanese choir
and dynamic West African
drumming were highlights
from the day.
The performances were
matched by the selection of
fresh international cuisines for
everyone to enjoy.
