One of the highlights of the year is the Devereux Weekend,
Another significant event is Athelstan 1100, which runs
from June to October. This year marks 1100 years since
Athelstan became the first King of England, and he is buried
in Malmesbury Abbey. The town is celebrating with a series
of events, including the 'Malmesbury's Big Athelstan Dig',
where visitors can mingle with community archaeologists.
There are also live performances in Malmesbury Abbey,
an Anglo-Saxon Fair and children's Big Athelstan picnic, and a
large-scale re-enactment village to explore.
Visitors can browse the charming streets and High Street
with unique independent retailers, or stop at one of the lively
cafes, restaurants, pubs, and bars. And if you're looking for an
exciting programme of words, music, walks, and more, don't
miss Wessex Week from 19-26 October. Malmesbury is the
