Knitters create novel Anzac fundraiser<br />
THERE’S BEEN more knit than natter<br />
lately for the Arvida St Albans community<br />
knitting group.<br />
They’ve been busy knitting more than<br />
100 red poppies so far and have raised $100<br />
for the local RSA.<br />
“It’s been quite the surprise to see how<br />
much we’ve raised for the RSA so far.<br />
The poppies actually look really striking<br />
once they’re pinned on, too,” resident and<br />
knitter Rose Seibien said.<br />
The poppies are made of red and black<br />
wool leftover from the Arvida Living Well<br />
Community’s recent market may project<br />
with a group of five residents and team<br />
members knitting away.<br />
It takes about a day to complete each<br />
poppy with each one having a pin fastened<br />
to the back so it can be worn.<br />
Village manager Hayley Madden says<br />
the idea was resident-led and the poppies<br />
have proven popular with visitors to the<br />
Living Well Community over the past<br />
couple of weeks.<br />
“Our knit and natter group are really<br />
talented and we’ve been selling each poppy<br />
for a donation at the village reception.<br />
“It’s been a sustainable way of using<br />
old wool scraps and an original way of<br />
remembering Anzac Day.”<br />
