THE IU LAW – INDIANAPOLIS THIRD ANNUAL<br />
SPRING ENVIRONMENTAL LAW SYMPOSIUM on April 1 st<br />
focused on conflict, scarcity, and the quality <strong>of</strong> state water resources.<br />
Three panels addressed recent and developing challenges to state<br />
and local water supplies—with an emphasis on the legal frameworks<br />
through which those supplies are managed and protected.<br />
The keynote speaker at the half-day event was Matthew T.<br />
Klein, ’01, Executive Director <strong>of</strong> <strong>Indiana</strong>polis Water who spoke<br />
on “Who’s Guarding Our Water Infrastructure?” Three panel<br />
discussions addressed other issues relating to water law and<br />
featured local experts and well known academics from around<br />
the country. Participants included: Tom Healy, Broad Ripple<br />
Village Association; Dr. Travis Ryan, Pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> Biology,<br />
Butler University; Paul Whitmore, Communications Manager,<br />
Veolia Water; Laurie Fowler, Pr<strong>of</strong>essor, University <strong>of</strong> Georgia;<br />
Jennifer Wilson Miller, Associate, Sirote & Permutt, Birmingham,<br />
Alabama; William Blomquist, Dean, IU <strong>School</strong> <strong>of</strong> Liberal Arts<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>Law</strong> and Lenore Tedesco, Department <strong>of</strong> Earth Sciences,<br />

IU law pr<strong>of</strong>essors Dan Cole, the R. Bruce Townsend Pr<strong>of</strong>essor<br />
<strong>of</strong> <strong>Law</strong>; Eric Dannenmaier, Associate Pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> <strong>Law</strong> & Chair<br />
<strong>of</strong> the Environmental Policy Forum, and David Orentlicher,<br />
Samuel R. Rosen Pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> <strong>Law</strong> & Co-director <strong>of</strong> the Hall<br />
Center for <strong>Law</strong> and Health.<br />
The program was followed by a reception hosted by the IU<br />
Environmental Policy Forum; the law school’s Environmental<br />
<strong>Law</strong> Society; and the IU <strong>School</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Law</strong> – <strong>Indiana</strong>polis<br />
Environmental <strong>Law</strong> <strong>Alumni</strong>.<br />
This year’s symposium was co-sponsored by Butler<br />

S. Hall Center for <strong>Law</strong> and Health; IUPUI Center for Earth and<br />
