Hello! chennai
We are right now bang in the middle of the festive season and
celebrations probably abound all around you.
let me also take this opportunity to extend my best wishes to each
and every one of you.
We have plenty to share with you this issue.
First off, i would like to invite you to visit the spanking new Prestige
website. yes, folks we have completely revamped and remodelled
our site to make your online experience with Prestige as wonderful
as your offline interactions with us. All our different businesses and
divisions now link out of this one site, making it easier for you
to find what you are looking for. There are plenty more new and
useful features on the site, not the least of which is the Falcon
Blog which your editor has the honour of penning. Besides, there
are links to all major social media networks including Facebook
and twitter, which means you can follow us in the manner that
most suits you. read all about it in this issue and experience it for
yourself by visiting the site pronto!
One major milestone that Prestige crossed was our first ever AGM
post our iPo. this was a red letter day in our history and the occasion
was marked by profuse congratulations and encouragement from
our shareholders. Well, we owe all our success to our wellwishers,
so a warm thank you to each and every one of you.
the pace of developments at Prestige stays at its usual rapid rate.
several projects have been launched and the response to them has
been tremendous to say the least. Prestige Park View, at Whitefield, in
Bangalore was remarkably successful and has been sold out. Prestige
tranquility, at Budigere just off old madras road, in Bangalore is
well on its way to being sold out as well. so if you are looking to
invest in this wonderful development, my advice would be to grab
the phone now! Prestige sunnyside, just off the sarjapur marthahalli
ring road, is another lovely development that is fast being lapped
up. and then there is Prestige edwardian, the luxury development in
the heart of Bangalore, which promises an exquisitely exclusive living
experience right in the middle of the city.
on the delivery front the good news is that we have completed
the second block of Prestige dynasty, and Forum Vijaya mall at
is fast nearing completion. in fact, the consumers
of chennai will start the new year 2012 with 675,000 sft
of world class mall space to shop, stay entertained and
hang out in!
the kids at inventure academy continue to do their school
proud. the list of their achievements keeps growing and
they deserve a round of applause from each of us.
on the retail front, the Forum, koramangala and
Forum Value mall continue to buzz with action, drawing
Bangaloreans in thousands. and the collection at uB
city, as always, has been setting the standards for all
things luxury.
our trophy cupboard is now bursting at the seams as the
awards keep pouring in. What makes us prouder is that the
recognition we get goes beyond architecture and building.
the lush landscapes that are a welcome signature of every
Prestige development, and the most visible evidence of
our eco consciousness, regularly sweep the awards at the
annual show conducted by the horticultural society of
mysore. this year as well was no exception.
meanwhile, life at Prestige properties has been humming
along and our Property diaries section features all the
action at two of them. let me take this opportunity to
urge our residents at all our other properties as well to
send in information on all that’s happening with them.
come on folks, this is your chance to show the rest of the

this issue of Falcon news, it is my privilege to
report to you on behalf of the entire retail team at Prestige.
these are exciting times for the retail business in india as a whole, and at
Prestige the action has been frenetic to say the least. over the last seven
years or so, our presence in retail has grown in leaps and bounds and
today we stand on the threshold of becoming one of india’s pre-eminent
players in this segment.
it all started, of course, in 2004, when Prestige triggered a revolution in
Bangalore’s retail scenario with launch of the Forum at koramangala.
the Forum transformed shopping from a mere across-the-counter
transaction into a much richer, multifaceted experience that we christened
‘shoppertainment’. it set a new paradigm for the retail business in
Bangalore which was embraced whole heartedly by the new generation
of shoppers. the ‘mall’ became the new go to place.
continuing its foray into the organised retail arena, Prestige then
opened the collection at uB city, in association with the uB group,
at Bangalore. With over 40 of the world’s most premium brands
gathered under one roof, and arguably, the best place for food and
beverage in the city, the collection at uB city is india’s first true
luxury shopping destination, and is today a must-be-seen-at hotspot
for connoisseurs of luxury.
We then moved to the other end of the shopping spectrum with
Forum Value Mall, in Whitefield Bangalore. Set up in association with
capitamalls asia, the Forum Value mall offers the best of both worlds
to the shopper who is both brand and value conscious, besides being a
hub for the neighbourhood community to meet and mingle.
Prestige entered into a formal alliance with capitamalls asia in 2008
to replicate the Forum concept across major cities in south india,
including hyderabad, kochi, mangalore and mysore. Besides, Prestige
is also establishing new malls at chennai and at Prestige shantiniketan
in Bangalore.
our efforts at present are directed at setting up and getting these new
malls off the ground and i am happy to inform you that the projects are
all proceeding as per plan.
By early next year, the Forum Vijaya mall at chennai will be open
for business. With a gross leasable area of 675000 sft, the mall will
be almost twice the size of the Forum koramangala. i am happy to
report that the response from the retail fraternity in chennai has been
tremendous. So much so that we are finding ourselves hard pressed to
accommodate everyone!
Work in hyderabad and mangalore is also progressing at a brisk pace,
and we are scheduled to open in the first quarter of 2013. Hyderabad
will be our largest mall to date with a leasable area of 850000 sft.
By 2013/2014, the Forums at kochi, mysore and Prestige shantiniketan
will also be fully operational. this will then make Prestige one of the
largest players in the shopping mall arena in india.
our focus at this stage remains on south india. Post 2014, we will look
at going beyond the major metros and taking the world class Forum
experience to the consumers of select tier two towns as well. ultimately,
our aim is to dominate the markets that we are present in, by providing
simply the best ‘shoppertainment’ experience available in india.
one factor that is critical to our success is the availability of talent. retail
is a people to people business that is driven by the quality of the person
on the floor. We are alive to this fact and have already commenced the
process of building and training a strong talent pool that will staff our
malls. i must stress that this represents a tremendous career opportunity
for experienced retail professionals, as our vision and plans are engineered
for the long haul and growth avenues will be available in plenty.

now complete and ready to occupy.

Fun and Frolic on chocolate day
July 7 is celebrated as chocolate day in many countries as it is believed
that this day marks the arrival of the ‘dark tempter’ on the shores of
europe in 1550. the Forum, koramangala celebrated the day in style
with fun activities like a chocolate–eating competition, spin-thewheel
and much more. the winners were fittingly rewarded with
a huge chocolate bar weighing 2.5 kgs, while premium flavoured
chocolates were given out as consolation prizes.

the Forum’s oWn
FestiVal oF music.
The Forum, Koramangala set the city on fire with Break Free -The
ultimate music Fest, aimed at providing a platform to encourage
budding musicians. the 4 day long festival saw music enthusiasts from
all over Bangalore leaving the audience and judges equally spell-bound
with their gripping performances.
The first day of the festival was dedicated to Indian classical music.
renowned music guru sri rk Padmanabhan, who was the judge,
picked krishna Prasad, ragavendra, anuradha and akshatha, to
perform in the finals.
World music and fusion was the theme of the second day and judge
amit heri selected the bands ‘Fused’ and ‘rhythmic energy’ to perform
at the grand finale.
the third day was dedicated to rock music and galeej gurus, india’s
famed rock band, judged the competition. Bands ‘hungry’, ‘distortion
Culture’ and ‘The Roll Call’ made it to the finals.
The grand finale had renowned singer Lucky Ali as the guest-of-honour.
the ‘man with the Velvet Voice’ also rendered ‘o sanam’ and ‘sunoh’
on the occasion.
after some enthralling performances, k.V. krishnaprasad, ‘rhythmic
energy’ and ‘hungry’ emerged victorious, winning the trophies in their
respective categories along with the chance to exhibit their talent live
on the city’s most popular music station – radio one. the prizes also
included watches from titan and a one day workshop to learn logic
studio, the preferred music production software for composers and
artists worldwide.

of the home for mentally
challenged Boys in Bangalore.

music, dance and more. home
cooked food from 11 different
countries was presented and
sold and each country’s stall
had a representative dressed in
their national colours. children
from the neighbourhood also
voluntarily put up food and
craft stalls, all donating their
proceeds towards the special
needs home.
Besides delicious homemade
latin food, there were dance
performances from local
artistes, an auction and a raffle
that grabbed the attention of
both children and parents. the
prizes for the raffle were a
ticket to hyderabad and delhi,
sponsored by indigo, as well
as free meals from cafe noir
and toscano. two handcrafted

U&I is a volunteer-driven charity

in social action. U&I currently
runs 12 education projects

Prestige celeBrates engineers’ day
september 15th of every year is celebrated as ‘engineer’s
day’ throughout the country as a mark of respect to the great engineer
sir m Visweswaraiah who was dewan and chief engineer of mysore.
at Prestige we marked the event by making it an occasion for thanks giving
and introspection for all engineering, purchase, contracts & interiors teams
to meet together. the programme was held at Prestige atrium.
after kicking things off with a sumptuous lunch, the event proper started
with a welcome address by mr. V. gopal, sr. Vice President - Projects
& Planning, in the august presence of mr. irfan razack, chairman &
managing director, mr. rezwan razack, Jt. managing director and mr.
Faiz rezwan, executive director.
mr. raghavendra n., aVP - Projects, then spoke about the life and
greatness of sir mV. this was followed by a unique singing performance
by mr. tandaveshwara, VP - Projects, who entertained the gathering
with a brilliant rendition of old hindi songs through which he drew
comparisons to Prestige developments over the years!
the entire group was given an opportunity to speak and express their
opinions. all the senior staff came up and spoke about their expectations
from colleagues in the department. after this mr. V. gopal took the
stage and spoke of our achievements over two decades of engineering
and the challenges and expectations of the company from engineers.
mr. irfan razack shared with us his valuable perspective on the
contributions made by engineers and how they needed to view their
roles. he expressed his desire that we continue the tradition and honour
the best engineers in the team every year. mr. Faiz rezwan also addressed
the gathering.
the programme ended with fellowship and tea sponsored by the senior
engineering team at 6 pm.

apart from quality value shopping, Forum Value mall organizes various such community activities throughout the year.
These are part of the Forum Value Mall experience and have made the mall Whitefield’s most popular family hub. Right
from serious issues like children’s health to expensive hobbies like vintage cars, Forum Value mall had events of wide and
varied flavour keeping our customers involved and entertained. Here’s a brief report on all the action.

the 15th of august was a special day for our customers
as we marked independence day by giving customers
who shopped for rs.1,000/- a chance to color their
own t-shirt designed in patriotic themes. adding to the
excitement were a tattoo artist and a nail art specialist.
nationWide Primary healthcare services in
association with dental diagnostic centre and
dr. agarwal’s eye-hospital organised ‘the
healthy kids’ - a Paediatric health camp for
children below 15 years, at the mall.
the camp included a general Paediatric checkup
followed by refraction and Vision tests
for eye-care, an oral hygiene examination
and dental check-up. the camp was led by
expert paediatricians from nationWide and
the general Paediatric check-up involved an
examination of the child’s physical attributes
as well as tests for anaemia and vitamin
deficiencies. The initiative also drew support
from dr. agarwal’s eye hospital and dental
diagnostic centre who conducted the eyecare
and oral check-up respectively

Pet it – the mega dOg shOw
the 3rd of september saw Forum Value mall ‘going to the dogs’! in
association with the Whitefield Club, we organized the ‘Pet It’ - mega
dog show at the mall, which saw some of the most talented canines in
Bangalore ‘strut their stuff ’ on the big stage
matching their skills against each other, the 24 faithful companions of
16 different breeds from dalmations and rottweillers to rare napoleon
mastiffs and Jack russel terriers, had their mettle tested in a wide range
of contests.
in the opening event – dressed to kill, the dogs took to the ramp,
showcasing the latest in vogue from the world of pet-wear. a show
of hands awarded the ‘mr. Pet-it’ title to dr. gangadhar’s Black
Pomeranian – ‘Pepper’ while ash’s springer spaniel – ‘Budweiser’ was
crowned ‘ms Pet-it’ and ‘Venice’ -Paraf ’s chihuahua was adjudged the
‘Best dressed’. the prize for the ‘Funniest attire’ went to khushi’s
spitz – ‘Buddy’.
this was followed by ‘his masters Voice’ and ‘trick & treat’, where the

2011 thanks to his allround
performance in all
competitions.
Like fine wine, some things get better with age. Honouring legendary machines that have carved
a niche for themselves in the history of automobiles, ‘the classic Vintage car rally’ showcased
around 50 of the finest vintage cars and bikes. Organized by the 105 year old Whitefield Club,
the rally was flagged off from Forum Value Mall, Whitefield on the 17th of July.
one of the ‘golden oldies’ – a daimler dB 18 (1947 model) was put on display at Forum Value
mall throughout the week leading up to the
event. among a few german manufacturers
to survive the great War, daimler’s dB 18
was in production from 1947 to 1953, with a
total of only 608 units ever made.

have done something like this,” said mrs. dalal. “cooking used to be a

nowadays, men should also do their part in the kitchen,” she added.

just have to follow the recipes, and they can’t really go wrong.” she then
taught them to make some of her signature dishes including fondues and
was more than delighted to answer queries from the audience.
the proceeds of the workshop, amounting to rs. 1,00,800, was
donated by mrs. dalal to the ngo - ‘smile Foundation’ to sponsor the
education of 24 children.

mock evacuation drill conducted
at uB city:

conducted a mock evacuation and disaster management drill on
29th July 2011. this drill is conducted once every year to ensure that the
emergency response teams, security personnel and other employees are
fully prepared to tackle any situation that may arise.
The officials of Karnataka Fire & Emergency Services, Home Guards &
civil defense and safety & security divisions of uB and Prestige group
were present during this drill.

3peel has built a unique art platform for school children to let their inner
voices be heard, seen and shared. 3peel children’s art competition,
started in June 2009 in Bangalore by artist & entrepreneur ruchika
kawlra motwani, has built a children’s community where children get to
share their work & learn from with their peers.
several thousand children participate in the annual 3peel art competition
across Bangalore. these 4-19 years old children experiment using many
old & new techniques; and touch upon various topics relevant to our
world today. their work is always exciting and fresh.
this years the contest is being held between June & sept 2011 in schools
for children in Bangalore.
the theme for 2011 is “my animal World”.
the paintings will be judged by a panel of accomplished artists and curators.
Participating schools include remium schools in Bangalore such as indus
international, tisB, dPs, naFl, nPs, trio etc.
We hope to have participation from 11,000-15,000 children this year.
Reaching out to the lesser privileged
this year, the big difference is that 3peel has included 8000 underprivileged
children in the competition. this has been made possible by a generous
grant we received from sublime. 3peel matched the grant from sublime
and together we were able to :
l Buy 8000 ready mix paints
l Produce 8000 booklets which show how children can use these ready
mix paints - various techniques
teachers were instructed to take the children through the techniques
shown in the booklet.

the principals are all very thankful, amazed that we would do this
absolutely free with no ulterior motive other than the fact that we want
to propagate art as a habit and not a fleeting hobby. Most art teachers
are thankful because the children from their schools have so far not been
able to work on this kind of paper or paints.
The thought behind this initiative
research has shown an that participating in art activities helps children
understand the human experience, adapt to and respect others’ ways of
working and thinking, communicate their thoughts and ideas in novel
ways and develop creative problem-solving skills.
Participating in an art competition on the scale of 3peel helps children feel
part of a community, feel cared for and helps enhance their sense of self.
We believe that art nurtures inventiveness as it engages children in a
process that aids in the development of self-esteem, self-discipline,
cooperation, and self-motivation.
The culminating exhibition and award ceremony
a art exhibition will be organized in october 2011, where the work of all
the finalists will be shown. 800-1000 children’s work will be displayed at
this event. All these children will receive merit certificates and the topper
from each school will get awards.
the 3peel art competition will culminate in a gala award ceremony where
30 children will get trophies and a gift hamper full of everything a little
artist needs.

medicinaL use
in traditional indian medicine, dried and fresh fruits of the plant are used. all
parts of the plant are used in various ayurvedic/unani medicine (Jawarish
amla) herbal preparations, including the fruit, seed, leaves, root, bark and
flowers. according to ayurveda, aamla fruit is sour (amla) and astringent
(kashaya) in taste (rasa), with sweet (madhura), bitter (tikta) and pungent
(katu) secondary tastes (anurasas). its qualities (gunas) are light (laghu) and
dry (ruksha), the postdigestive effect (vipaka) is sweet (madhura), and its
energy (virya) is cooling (shita).
According to Ayurveda, aamla is specific to pitta due to its sweet taste and cooling
energy. however, amla is thought to balance vata by virtue of its sour taste, and
kapha due to its astringent taste and drying action. it may be used as a rasayana
(rejuvenative) to promote longevity, and traditionally to enhance digestion
(dipanapachana), treat constipation (anuloma), reduce fever (jvaraghna), purify
the blood (raktaprasadana), reduce cough (kasahara), alleviate asthma (svasahara),
strengthen the heart (hrdaya), benefit the eyes (chakshushya), stimulate hair growth
(romasanjana), enliven the body (jivaniya), and enhance intellect (medhya). amla
shampoos and hair oil are traditionally believed to nourish the hair and scalp
and prevent premature grey hair.
in ayurvedic polyherbal formulations, indian gooseberry is a common constituent,
and most notably is the primary ingredient in an ancient herbal rasayana called
chyawanprash. this formula, which contains 43 herbal ingredients as well as
clarified butter, sesame oil, sugar cane juice, and honey, was first mentioned in the
charaka samhita as a premier rejuvenative compound.
in chinese traditional therapy, this fruit is called yuganzi , which is used to cure
throat inflammation.
Emblica officinalis tea may ameliorate diabetic neuropathy. In diabetic ats it
Phyllanthus emblica (syn. Emblica officinalis), the Indian
gooseberry, or aamla', is a deciduous tree of the Phyllanthaceae
family. It is known for its edible fruit of the same name.
significantly reduced blood glucose, food intake, water intake
and urine output compared to the control group.
cuLinary use
Particularly in south india, the fruit is pickled with salt, oil,
and spices. aamla is eaten raw or cooked into various dishes.
in andhra Pradesh, tender varieties are used to prepare dal
(a lentil preparation). amle ka murabbah is a sweet dish
indigenous to the northern part of india (the berries are
soaked in sugar syrup till they absorb the sweet flavor); it is
traditionally consumed after meals.
Other uses
Popularly used in inks, the high tannin content of the indian
gooseberry fruit serves as a mordant for fixing dyes in
fabrics.

28 July, 2011 was a red letter day in the history of
Prestige, when the company, post listing, had its
first ever Annual General Meeting of Members.
the meeting was held at at 4.00 p.m. at taj West
end, race course road, Bangalore.
the main agenda was to approve the annual
accounts of Prestige for the financial year
2010-11. a dividend of 12% was declared on the
face of value of equity shares by the members

into the workings of the united nations and the dynamics of international relations by
assuming the roles of un representatives, members of other international bodies and
national cabinets,” says lucy Joseph the teacher co-ordinator for mun at inventure
academy. after the session, the students also attended an orientation on the process of
applying to harvard university.

our students learnt a lesson on converting trash to cash from the business unit for
women in Janakiram layout, kamanahalli, Bangalore, who make beautiful handbags with
discarded tetra packs to earn a livelihood. this project which aims to empower women
has been started by the centre for social action wing of christ university. the women
purchase used tetra packs from the garbage unit, cut each packet, wash it with hot water
and then with a disinfectant and let them dry. colorful strips are then cut out and woven
exquisitely to produce beautiful carry bags. "transforming trash to cash is an eco-friendly
lesson for everyone to learn," says evanka, a student of grade 6, inventure academy.

and varied culture, a pookkalam (flower
arrangement) competition was held to
welcome onam. students of grades six
onwards participated in the inter-house event
and worked in groups of five and did floral
arrangement in simple and complex designs.
Venturers won the competition while the
adventurers stood second.

civic awareness and took an oath to foster
and nurture active citizenship by spreading
awareness through ‘civic clubs’ in schools
and similar forums in the community

aLisha dances fOr a cause
alisha kalyanpur, a student of grade 9, gave
a Bharatanatyam dance performance to raise
funds for the People 4 People foundation,
an ngo which puts up playgrounds in
government schools in Bangalore, among its
other activities. titled ‘dance for a cause’,
the program was held at the Jagriti theater in
Whitefield on August 21. Alisha performed
the sinuous krishna padam as a solo, and a
resounding foot-tapping thillana along with
her co-dancers. The grand finale was titled
sadbhavana, a fusion dance performed to
musical compositions by mozart, Benjamin
Britten, ar rahman, Bryan adams and
michael Jackson. the show was a sellout and
raised over rs.5 lakh.
Janmashtami ceLebratiOns
celebrated to mark the birth of lord sri
krishna, the festival of Janmashtami was
celebrated at inventure academy. students of
grade 10 enacted the life of sri krishna with a
humorous twist.

group initiative), in association with cry(child relief
and you) held a massive fundraising event on august
27th at uB city.

on the golfing green, which makes
us at inventure academy very very
proud. if our school is reckoned
to be a formidable name in school
sports, it is because our students
draw inspiration from her spirit
and zeal to win.
here are some of nooraine’s
recent achievements:
- member of a team of 12 which
has qualified for the south zone
finals of the Touche Gang Wars,
with 1600 golfers across india
participating
- represented the winning team from india in the “race to ireland”, at the irish open
pro am with Jeev millka singh as her partner
- turnberry cup, scotland (team of four, including anirban, ranked top 5 in india)
- callaway tournament, kga (individual trophy)
- toyota (team of four). competed as one of 120 teams!
- Won one longest drive and 2 closest to the pin awards at two of the above
tournaments
inventure academy took the lead in
the entertainment programme and
in organising the printing, sale and
collection of tickets and programmes.
the student council executive
members, former and newly elected,
were everywhere that evening, and
deserve much appreciation for their
commitment to the cause.
the programme titled ‘reach out’
opened to a short play on the “rights
of the child”, performed by our
students. our school band followed this
up with two lovely songs. then we had
“tarantismo”, a creative ballet directed
by arati Punwani, and a song rendered
by the students of mallya aditi. allegro
Fudge, the band of old cottonians, then
took the stage to rock the audience,
after which Bangalore’s famed guitarist
konark reddy mesmerized the crowd
with his skills. The finale was also the
piece de resistance of the evening as
the well known rock band Parikrama
took the gathering by storm with a
powerpacked 90 minutes of hits, that
had the crowd screaming for more.
the event was a signal success as iscl
could raise over rs 7 lakhs for cry and
their work for underserved children.
This being the first such endeavour
of iscl, we can only look forward to
more such to come!
