The Product
Centralised Traffic Control (CTC) is a system that controls the railway from a central location (the CTC
Centre). This CTC centre communicates with interlockings distributed throughout the controlled area
via a non-vital telemetry system.
Target Audience
The Training course is for railway signalling system maintainers who are already competent in computer
based systems and will be responsible for system modification, commissioning, fault finding and
maintenance of CTC Centre installations.
Competencies
On completion of this course, participants should be able to:
 access and start the CTC system using the appropriate UNIX commands;
 display and interpret the event logs;
Course Details
This is a theoretical and a practical based course that provides participants with the skills to modify,
commission, fault find and maintain a CTC Centre installations. The CTC Software Maintenance course is
conducted on the customer’s installation (or in our training room) and is presented over 5 days with a
maximum of 6 participants. Theoretical training uses of a set of visual projections to review the CTC
Centre Software configuration. This is supported by structured training exercises where participants
reference the CTC Centre Software Manual and study examples of data entry. Practical training consists
of designing a station layout, creating a geographic database and assigning alarms for the operator.
We give each participant a copy of the CTC Centre Software manual and a training manual. We
continuously assess participant’s competency during the training and issue a Certificate of Competency
to participants demonstrating competency.
