General Information MAIL AND SHIPPING SERVICES Mail is not delivered to the residence hall rooms. Students must make other arrangements to obtain a post office box. Boxes may be rented from the Commons and the Northgate Post Office. The student may want to wait to find out his/her hall assignment before renting a post office box. Mailboxes can only be rented in person. UPS and FedEx packages can be sent directly to the student via the hall name and room number. Residents must be present to receive room deliveries. For information on renting a mailbox at the Commons, see http://www.postalplus-bcs.com and click on “TAMU Private Mailbox.” property inSurAnCe Texas A&M University does not carry insurance on students’ belongings and is not responsible for damage to or theft of any personal property in campus residence hall rooms. Therefore, the Department of Residence Life strongly encourages students to: • make arrangements with their parent’s or guardian’s homeowners insurance company to ensure coverage for personal belongings, • purchase a personal articles floater policy, or • purchase separate personal-property or renters insurance. Personal-property insurance covers only property owned by an individual, while renters insurance has coverage similar to homeowners insurance (covers both liability and property). Both types of insurance are very affordable. Texas A&M University does not endorse any particular insurance company providing personal-property or renters insurance; however, the three insurance providers listed below have been identified by the university as offering a variety of coverage options from highly rated underwriters. However, assignments are determined by space availability and date of application. <strong>Living</strong> with a new person is a great opportunity to learn more about others. Roommates are responsible for resolving their differences. If conflict develops, students should ask their RA, CD or GHD to sit in on the discussion and attempt to resolve the conflict. Trained mediators may also be requested to help resolve conflicts. Students should see their CD to request a mediator. Contact your hall staff for more information. room typeS And rAteS For more information regarding room types and rates, visit http://reslife.tamu.edu/housing/. temporAry houSing At the beginning of each semester, the occupancy of the residence halls may be expanded through the assignment of students to study rooms and recreation rooms, and the tripling of what are usually double-occupancy rooms. Within the first three weeks of classes, most temporary students are relocated to permanent spaces as rooms become available.
LOOkING FOR A ROOMMATE? Find a Roommate is an online service to assist you in finding a roommate to share your home away from home in a residence hall at Texas A&M University. Find a Roommate allows you to add general information about yourself to a database of similar information submitted by other Aggies who either will be living in a residence hall or are currently living in a residence hall, and are also looking for a roommate. If you choose to participate, after you enter your information, you may search the database for individuals with compatible interests. The information submitted by Aggies choosing to use the database will include contact information to facilitate further follow-up/conversation with an individual you may find interesting as a potential roommate. How does it work? A person who has applied for housing may log on to Housing Online Services at http://reslife.tamu.edu/how and select Find HOUSING OPTIONS For a list of housing options, visit http://reslife.tamu.edu/ housing/options. View virtual tours and photos of each of the styles of residence halls at http://reslife.tamu.edu/ housing/halls/vrtours. General Information a Roommate. You can choose to answer some questions such as study habits, sleeping habits, socializing habits, smoking habits, etc. The program will take the responses to the questions along with name, major, classification, hall preferences, telephone and email address to form a record, which can then be used and posted on the site. You have the option to choose which information from your record is displayed to other users of the program. Any student who applied for housing or is currently in the housing system may review all the postings and choose if there is anyone he/she wishes to contact that matches the preferences he/she is looking for. If you select a roommate, go online to update your housing record by putting in your roommate information on your housing application. You may remove yourself at any time from the database by signing on to Find a Roommate and then selecting the option to delete your information.
