is allowed. You must use an interior semi-gloss
latex-enamel acrylic paint in one of the universityapproved
colors. This is a low-odor, easy-to-clean
(does not require thinner) paint, which is available
from a number of local paint stores. It is very
important that the paint you use be interior semigloss
latex-enamel acrylic paint and not the regular
latex-enamel paint. Regular latex will not bond
well to our walls, which have been painted with
oil-based paint.
The North and South Area Offices will provide
free Aggie White paint for your convenience as
long as supplies last, limited to 2 gallons per room.
No room will be painted by the students or by
Texas A&M University more frequently than once
every two years, unless need is determined by the
hall director’s staff. Before buying materials, please
obtain a copy of the Residence Hall Paint Policy
and Guidelines from http://reslife.tamu.edu
or the hall staff. Find the approval form at
Posters and wall hangings can add personality to
any room. We encourage students to decorate their
walls, but keep the room-modification expectations
in mind when doing so. Use adhesive products to
hang pictures; for example, 3M Command Picture
Hanging Strips work best. Make sure the adhesive
used does not pull paint or plaster off the wall. Putty
must be totally removed when the student checks out.
room modifiCAtionS
Contact paper, decorations, painting (as explained
on page 4) and any other modifications must be
approved by the GHD or CD. Permanent fixtures
and construction are not permitted. All items
in the room must be free standing. Modifying
electrical or telephone wiring is prohibited.
Under no circumstances should nails, screws or
wall anchors be used to affix items to walls. Any
materials used to affix items to walls or doors must
be completely removed upon check-out (including
all tape residue). Under no circumstances should
closet doors be removed, even if viewed as only a
temporary modification.
NOTE: For fire-safety reasons, furniture may not be
stacked in a manner that impedes emergency exit through
room windows or that inhibits the proper function of room
