5.4.2(1) Underground piping larger than 75 mm in<br />

diameter shall be designed, installed <strong>and</strong><br />

maintained to meet the requirements <strong>of</strong>:<br />

(a) secondary containment in con<strong>for</strong>mance<br />

with Sentence 5.4.4(1);<br />

(b) leak detection in con<strong>for</strong>mance with<br />

Part 6; or<br />

(c) API RP 1632-96, “Cathodic Protection<br />

<strong>of</strong> Underground Storage Tank <strong>and</strong> Piping<br />

Systems” <strong>and</strong> API Std 2610-94, “Design,<br />

Construction, Operation, Maintenance<br />

<strong>and</strong> Inspection <strong>of</strong> Terminal <strong>and</strong> Tank<br />

Facilities”.<br />

5.4.3(1) Non-metallic piping may be used <strong>for</strong><br />

underground installations provided the<br />

piping <strong>and</strong> fittings are designed, built, <strong>and</strong><br />

approved in con<strong>for</strong>mance with the<br />

requirements <strong>of</strong>:<br />

(a) ORD-C107.7-1993, “Glass Fibre Rein<strong>for</strong>ced<br />

Plastic Pipe <strong>and</strong> Fittings,” or<br />

(b) ORD-C107.4-1992, “Ducted Flexible<br />

Underground Piping Systems.”<br />

5.4.4(1) Secondary containment <strong>for</strong> underground<br />

piping shall:<br />

(a) be designed, built, <strong>and</strong> approved in<br />

con<strong>for</strong>mance with ORD-C107.7-1993,<br />

“Glass-Fibre Rein<strong>for</strong>ced Plastic Pipe <strong>and</strong><br />

Fittings”;<br />

(b) be designed, built, <strong>and</strong> approved in<br />

con<strong>for</strong>mance with ORD-C107.4-1992,<br />

“Ducted Flexible Underground Piping<br />

Systems”;<br />

(c) consist <strong>of</strong> a single-wall fibreglassrein<strong>for</strong>ced<br />

plastic, or single-wall steel<br />

piping, contained within a duct designed,<br />

built, <strong>and</strong> approved in con<strong>for</strong>mance with<br />

ORD-C107.19-1992, “Secondary<br />

Containment <strong>of</strong> Underground Piping”; or<br />

(d) be double-wall steel piping provided with<br />

a cathodic protection system designed by<br />

a corrosion expert.<br />

5.4.5(1) Secondary containment systems <strong>for</strong> piping<br />

shall be designed <strong>and</strong> installed such that<br />

leaks:<br />

(a) accumulate in a containment sump that is<br />

readily available <strong>for</strong> visual inspection; or<br />

(b) are detected by a monitoring system.<br />

Section 5.5 Installation<br />

5.5.1 Piping shall be installed by a company or<br />

individual that is authorized by the authority<br />

having jurisdiction.<br />

5.5.2 Piping shall be located <strong>and</strong> maintained<br />

to permit the eventual removal <strong>of</strong> the<br />

piping when the storage tank system is<br />

permanently withdrawn from service.<br />

5.5.3 Piping shall be located in a manner that<br />

will prevent allowable design stress from<br />

being exceeded.<br />

5.5.4 Piping located aboveground shall be<br />

protected from physical damage due<br />

to impact.<br />
