With <strong>FUCHS</strong> through <strong>the</strong> desert<br />

<strong>FUCHS</strong> LUBRIFIANT FRANCE sponsors <strong>the</strong> 4L Trophy<br />

It is one of <strong>the</strong> last gre<strong>at</strong> adventures –<br />

<strong>the</strong> 4L Trophy. This year <strong>ag</strong>ain, about<br />

1,200 teams had to survive a rally of<br />

approxim<strong>at</strong>ely 6,000 kilometers from<br />

Paris to Marrakech. About 700 kilometers<br />

went through <strong>the</strong> Moroccan<br />

desert. On <strong>the</strong> steering wheel of Re -<br />

nault 4 vehicles, about 2,000 college<br />

students from all around <strong>the</strong> world do<br />

not really need speed but orient<strong>at</strong>ion<br />

skills instead. Only supported by a road<br />

book with basic directions, a map of<br />

Morocco and a compass <strong>the</strong>y can prove<br />

<strong>the</strong>ir driving skill on desert tracks. In<br />

addition to <strong>the</strong> adventure, <strong>ag</strong>ain <strong>the</strong><br />

humanitarian aspect was in focus <strong>at</strong><br />

this twelfth 4L Trophy from 19 February<br />

to 1 March. All participants had to take<br />

minimum 50 kg of educ<strong>at</strong>ional m<strong>at</strong>eri-<br />

als for school kids in south Morocco<br />

along <strong>the</strong>ir journey. In 2010, 78.5 tons<br />

of humanitarian aid, such as school<br />

m<strong>at</strong>erials, medical care pack<strong>ag</strong>es and<br />

Elfriede Gruber secures top spot in sales<br />

competition<br />

For three years now, a male-domin<strong>at</strong>ed<br />

domain has been broken <strong>at</strong> <strong>FUCHS</strong> AUS-<br />

TRIA SCHMIERMITTEL – of nine employees<br />

working in <strong>the</strong> field service team,<br />

two are ladies. Claudia Koller, a trained<br />

master mechanic, joined <strong>the</strong> team in<br />

January 2007. Elfriede Gruber moved to<br />

<strong>FUCHS</strong> from a partner company in No -<br />

vem ber 2007.<br />

The success of this female reinforcement<br />

has now also been reflected in <strong>the</strong> <strong>annual</strong><br />

sales competition organized by <strong>the</strong><br />

Aus trian <strong>FUCHS</strong> subsidiary. Elfriede Gru-<br />

ber’s margin of victory over <strong>the</strong> secondplaced<br />

person was considerable, and <strong>the</strong><br />

places after her were occupied by Raimund<br />

Schmid and Dieter Schadinger.<br />

The competition has been held for 15<br />

years now. The focus is on securing new<br />

customers, reactiv<strong>at</strong>ing old customers,<br />

achieving <strong>the</strong> planned level of earnings<br />

and meeting specified deadlines. With<br />

<strong>the</strong> aid of this competition, <strong>FUCHS</strong> in<br />

Austria has man<strong>ag</strong>ed to secure around<br />

600 new customers or reactiv<strong>at</strong>e customers<br />

and thus safeguard success for <strong>the</strong><br />

future. The “woman power” in <strong>the</strong> field<br />

ser vice team of <strong>FUCHS</strong> AUSTRIA SCHMIER-<br />

MITTEL brings a gre<strong>at</strong> deal of fresh impetus<br />

to <strong>the</strong> field service team and really<br />

encour<strong>ag</strong>es male colle<strong>ag</strong>ues to do better.<br />

solar cells were distributed to schools<br />

and vill<strong>ag</strong>es under <strong>the</strong> supervision of<br />

<strong>the</strong> UN Children’s Fund UNICEF and<br />

thus helped an estim<strong>at</strong>ed 25,000 children.<br />

In order to support this humanitarian<br />

initi<strong>at</strong>ive, <strong>FUCHS</strong> LUBRIFIANT FRANCE<br />

sponsored <strong>the</strong> team of Jérémy Foulon<br />

and Mehdi Sinno, both students in<br />

<strong>the</strong>ir third year <strong>at</strong> <strong>the</strong> School of<br />

Man<strong>ag</strong>ement Leonard de Vinci in Paris<br />

and crossed <strong>the</strong>ir fingers th<strong>at</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

young drivers would finish <strong>the</strong> rally<br />

successfully – it worked: Of <strong>the</strong> 1,200<br />

teams, Jérémy und Mehdi came in<br />

398 th , along with 80 kg of humanitarian<br />

aid in <strong>the</strong>ir trunk which was given<br />

out to Moroccan kids.<br />

and excellent cost man<strong>ag</strong>ement<br />

are <strong>the</strong> criteria th<strong>at</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

John Deere r<strong>at</strong>es in presenting <strong>the</strong><br />

“Achieving Excellence” award for<br />

outstanding performance by suppliers.<br />

This is an award th<strong>at</strong> was also<br />

presented to <strong>FUCHS</strong> for <strong>the</strong> year<br />

2009. The “Achieving Excellence<br />

Award 2009” was accepted by Jeff<br />
