• specifications for the expected fitness of<br />
livestock arriving at the establishment;<br />
• the maximum time(s) off feed and<br />
water; and<br />
• expectations in relation to livestock<br />
handling practices<br />
Feedback is provided to livestock suppliers<br />
on adverse animal welfare outcomes and/or<br />
non-conformances and recorded.<br />
In the instance that cruelty is observed,<br />
this is reported to the appropriate<br />
authority and recorded.<br />
INDUSTRY ANIMAL WELFARE STANDARDS<br />
Standard Operating Procedures<br />
detail:<br />
• livestock management<br />
procedures in lairage;<br />
• humane destruction; and<br />
• stunning and slaughter<br />
practices.<br />
There are designated ‘on call’<br />
personnel that are competent<br />
in humane destruction,<br />
providing veterinary assistance,<br />
obtaining feed and water or<br />
other action as necessary.<br />
Instructions are provided<br />
to livestock suppliers and<br />
transport operators arriving<br />
out of hours which detail:<br />
• the pen(s) where livestock<br />
are to be placed;<br />
• procedures for managing<br />
livestock;<br />
• action in the event of an<br />
emergency e.g. contacting<br />
on-call personnel.<br />
Where feedback has been<br />
provided to suppliers, records<br />
of this communication are kept.<br />
Steps are taken to ensure that<br />
any required corrective actions<br />
are completed accordingly.<br />
Where possible, livestock<br />
are sourced from accredited<br />
suppliers and transport<br />
operators12 .<br />
