INDUSTRY ANIMAL WELFARE STANDARDS<br />

Water is available in all pens where livestock are held.<br />

Livestock are observed to be able to access water easily.<br />

Feed and feeding facilities are available on site to feed livestock<br />

being held.<br />

Note: feeding facilities may include pasture/paddocks.<br />

Lighting is operational<br />

Lighting provides even, uniform light without dark shadows.<br />

Lighting is sufficient for inspecting livestock and a portable lighting<br />

source is available for use as needed (e.g. clinical inspections).<br />

Humane destruction equipment (rifles/captive bolts) is available at<br />

the premises.<br />

Humane destruction equipment is maintained to manufacturer’s<br />

instructions.<br />

Bullets and charges used are appropriate for the species/class of<br />

livestock to be destroyed.<br />

Equipment for humane destruction is checked to be operational at<br />

the commencement of each shift.<br />

Equipment for humane destruction is cleaned before or after each<br />

shift and is stored in a clean, dry place.
