INTRODUCTION<br />

The Faculty of <strong>Architecture</strong> University of Belgrade <strong>and</strong> the Board of Ranko Radović Award,<br />

Association of Applied Arts Artists <strong>and</strong> Designers of Serbia (ULUPUDS), wishing to revive <strong>and</strong> continue<br />

professor Radović’s efforts in supporting scientific meetings about history <strong>and</strong> theory of architecture, is<br />

launching an International Conference on ARCHITECTURE AND IDEOLOGY.<br />

The "Ranko Radović" Award was established in order to encourage, develop <strong>and</strong> promote<br />

critical‐theoretical thought in the field of architecture <strong>and</strong> architectural creativity, based on ideas <strong>and</strong><br />

works of researchers, writers, essayists, <strong>and</strong> scholars in all branches of applied arts <strong>and</strong> media, relating<br />

to architecture <strong>and</strong> the phenomenon of the city. At the end of 2011, Awards Committee initiated the<br />

international scientific conference with the theme "<strong>Architecture</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Ideology</strong>" trying to fulfill the old<br />

wish of professor dr Ranko Radović (1935, Podgorica ‐ 2005, Belgrade) <strong>and</strong> complete the series of<br />

conferences, that had begun with the themes "<strong>Architecture</strong> <strong>and</strong> History" (held in 1990 in the National<br />

Library of Serbia) <strong>and</strong> "<strong>Architecture</strong> <strong>and</strong> Technology" (held in 1991 at the Faculty of <strong>Architecture</strong><br />

University of Belgrade). According to professor Radović idea, the conferences were followed by<br />

thematic issue ‐ journal ‐ book (as he called them) De re Aedificatoria, as an hommage to Leone<br />

Battista Alberti (1404‐1472), a man of theory, practice <strong>and</strong> broad, humanistic culture. The journal of<br />

the same title also follows the Third conference "<strong>Architecture</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Ideology</strong>", 28th <strong>and</strong> 29th<br />

September 2012, representing a hommage to professor Radović uomo universal of our time.<br />

This CD proceedings introduces acepted papers that arrived in large quantity, not only from Serbia, but<br />

also from the neighboring countries (Montenegro, Bosnia <strong>and</strong> Herzegovina, Croatia, Macedonia,<br />

Greece, Italy, Austria, Hungary) <strong>and</strong> from the other countries as well (Germany, Netherl<strong>and</strong>s,<br />

Switzerl<strong>and</strong>, Great Britain, Pol<strong>and</strong>, Russia, Kazakhstan, Spain, Portugal, Turkey, Algeria, Brazil <strong>and</strong><br />

Japan).<br />

We will be pleased to host around 120 delegates from many countries <strong>and</strong> continents. Despite the<br />

economic concerns that universities all over the world are facing these days, we are happy to have<br />

participants from 25 countries registered for this event.<br />

Works of university teachers <strong>and</strong> associates, research scientists <strong>and</strong> artists have confirmed that the<br />

theme related to architecture <strong>and</strong> ideology is extremely actual, initiating various thoughts, ideas <strong>and</strong><br />

interpretations. Contributions chosen for the CD proceedings reflect the breadth <strong>and</strong> richness of the<br />

main theme, discussed through thematic sections ‐ The Ideological Context of <strong>Architecture</strong>, The City<br />

<strong>and</strong> the Power, The Morphology <strong>and</strong> Ideological Patterns, <strong>and</strong> The Relation between Designers <strong>and</strong><br />

<strong>Ideology</strong>.<br />

Throughout the world, in all cultures, this issue need to be studied from comparative <strong>and</strong><br />

transnational perspective, in a broad historical <strong>and</strong> social context, <strong>and</strong> we hope to offer you the<br />

opportunity to do so.<br />
