Circa 1910 imagery, 73 mm x 101mm; bronze with horn of plenty strike<br />

mark; artist: A. Morlon; obverse: triptych with left panel depicting early<br />

biplane and monoplane, central panel featuring allegorical winged figure,<br />

right panel with airship in flight; lettered Navigation Aerienne, with lower<br />

central presentation panel, not engraved; reverse: triptich with left panel<br />

depicting aeronautical designer observing birds in flight, Le Reve Concoit<br />

(the dream of conception); right panel shows smocked technition adjusting<br />

a radial aviation engine, La Science Realise (the reality of science),<br />

central panel left blank for engraving; this presentation medallion was<br />

intended for all aspects of aviation, from design through the execution<br />

Races 10th Anniversary; these races took place in Curtiss field, Chicago<br />

Illinois, this was the first year for the Thompson Trophy and was at the<br />

Pierre Blin; obverse: portrait in profile of Jean Mermoz; reverse: allegorical<br />

winged figure with outstretched arms, swirling clouds at base; 1901 and<br />

1936; this medal commemorates the tragic death of Jean Mermoz, a French<br />

heroic avaitor and stunt pilot; after many dangerous and adventurous<br />

flights, he was lost at sea; very dimensional in high relief with very appealing<br />
