portrait of Marcelin Berthelot, text below: La Synthese Chemique La
Science Guid L’Humanite; reverse: seated figure of Berthelot in front
of chemical apparatus, two allegorial figures standing above him, one
of representing France, the other Truth (holding mirror); written below:
1851 Pour la Patrie et la Verite 1901; this medallion commemorates the
scientific jubilee held for him in Paris of 1901; he is considered one of the
greatist chemists of all time; in leatherette fitted original case; medallion
has very minor blemishes, EX+

Aetatis Suae LX; reverse: depiction of Von Duhn holding archaeological
find (vase) with scholars and students in rapt attention, with ruins and
mountains in background, text: Von Schulern und Freudnden zum 17
April 1911; if you’re an archaeologist, you’ll really dig this medal, von
Duhn was an authority in ancient Italian archaeology, some rubbing to

each county and
region in France has a
chamber of agriculture; most likely this was an agricultural award; some

portrait in profile of Thomas Coats (1809-1883), text Thomas Coats
1883; reverse: image of Coats Observatory, text: Observatory Paisley;
Thomas Coats and his brother Sir Peter were the famous J&P Coats
thread manuacturers; Thomas Coats donated the funding for the observatory,
in October of 1883 the observatory was opened to the public; the
Coats Observatory is one of four public observatories, all located in Scotland
and it is still
used as a seismic
monitoring station
for the British
Geological Survey;
