o"ary of three: fused carpels with parietal placentae (I). The<br />

numerous seeds (2) are enclosed in a pulpy parenchymatOus<br />

endocarp; this is surrounded by the firmer flesh of<br />

the mesocarp (3) in which a ring of bicollatcral vascular<br />

bundles (d., 6.11) occurs. The epicarp forms the green skin<br />
