VISIT CCAD
four artists from the emmy-award winning
animated series The Simpsons helped celebrate
the launch of CCad’s new major in animation
this fall. presenting to a standing-room-only
crowd in the Canzani Center auditorium on
september 8, raymond persi, alex ruiz,
norm auble, and CCad alumnus shane sowell
(CCad ’01) talked about the process of creating
The Simpsons and discussed the highs and lows
of working in the animation industry. the artists
created simpsons drawings for the audience
after the talk.
the artists also visited classes and talked with
students about their animation portfolios.
sowell shared his experiences as a character
animator with a class of animation students
before the lecture. he emphasized the
importance of internships in helping animators
launch their professional careers. tom richner,
assistant professor of animation, organized the
event. richner worked for six seasons on The
Simpsons, and has many ties in the animation
industry.
the media studies division works closely
with professional partners at studios such as
film roman, disney, and dreamworks. “we
are fortunate to have connections with the
top animation studios in hollywood that
allow our students to work and study with
leading professional animators,” says CCad
president denny griffith. “the experiences
that CCad animation students have make a
huge difference when they are entering the
workforce in this highly competitive field.”

tV series King of the Hill, Shane
Sowell (CCad ‘01) began work
as a layout artist for The Simpsons
tV series. sowell was also a
storyboard artist for The Simpsons
Movie and helped develop the
simpsons ride for universal
studios theme parks in hollywood,
Ca, and orlando, fl.
