VISIT CCAD<br />
four artists from the emmy-award winning<br />
animated series The Simpsons helped celebrate<br />
the launch <strong>of</strong> CCad’s new major in animation<br />
this fall. presenting to a st<strong>and</strong>ing-room-only<br />
crowd in the Canzani Center auditorium on<br />
september 8, raymond persi, alex ruiz,<br />
norm auble, <strong>and</strong> CCad alumnus shane sowell<br />
(CCad ’01) talked about the process <strong>of</strong> creating<br />
The Simpsons <strong>and</strong> discussed the highs <strong>and</strong> lows<br />
<strong>of</strong> working in the animation industry. the artists<br />
created simpsons drawings for the audience<br />
after the talk.<br />
the artists also visited classes <strong>and</strong> talked with<br />
students about their animation portfolios.<br />
sowell shared his experiences as a character<br />
animator with a class <strong>of</strong> animation students<br />
before the lecture. he emphasized the<br />
importance <strong>of</strong> internships in helping animators<br />
launch their pr<strong>of</strong>essional careers. tom richner,<br />
assistant pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> animation, organized the<br />
event. richner worked for six seasons on The<br />
Simpsons, <strong>and</strong> has many ties in the animation<br />
industry.<br />
the media studies division works closely<br />
with pr<strong>of</strong>essional partners at studios such as<br />
film roman, disney, <strong>and</strong> dreamworks. “we<br />
are fortunate to have connections with the<br />
top animation studios in hollywood that<br />
allow our students to work <strong>and</strong> study with<br />
leading pr<strong>of</strong>essional animators,” says CCad<br />
president denny griffith. “the experiences<br />
that CCad animation students have make a<br />
huge difference when they are entering the<br />
workforce in this highly competitive field.”<br />

tV series King <strong>of</strong> the Hill, Shane<br />
Sowell (CCad ‘01) began work<br />
as a layout artist for The Simpsons<br />
tV series. sowell was also a<br />
storyboard artist for The Simpsons<br />
Movie <strong>and</strong> helped develop the<br />
simpsons ride for universal<br />
studios theme parks in hollywood,<br />
Ca, <strong>and</strong> orl<strong>and</strong>o, fl.<br />
