The building of Cracow's Philharmonic was originally constructed as a Catholic
Assembly Hall by Prince Adam Sapieha, the defiant Archbishop of Cracow. It was
not until 1945 that the neo-baroque building was made the home of the newly
formed Cracow Philharmonic. Since then the institution has flourished. There is a
constant flow of fine concerts, conference and congress Hall The building is located
a stone's throw from the Old Town Centre, just west of the Planty Gardens.
Cracow National Museum was first housed at the
upper floor of the Sukiennice building, now the
home of one of its divisions. The construction of
the Museum's New Building at 3 Maja Street
started in 1934, but was interrupted by World War II. It was completed only in 1992.
The Museum collections - consisting of several hundred thousand items - are kept in
big part in the Main Building but also in the nine of its divisions around the city.
Currently the management of the museum rents out some of their elegant interiors
for organizing receptions, events, conferences. The halls have own sound system,
are air-conditioned.
