Trying to stay cool this summer?
Visit the Centre. Check out our
listing of drop-in programs on page
17 of this newsletter or stop by the
Cafeteria - the coffee’s always hot
and the room is always cool!
I want to take this opportunity to sincerely thank our
members who go out of their way to welcome new
members to our Centre. For some people, it is often
very difficult to come into the Centre on their own,
especially when they do not know anyone. The warm
welcome you provide helps to make the new
member feel at ease and they are more likely to
return to the Centre based on their first experience.
The relationships formed through this Centre are so
wonderful to see develop and grow. Thank you for
helping make this Centre such a warm and inviting
place to be!
I hope you are pleased to see the flowerbeds have
been tidied and a few plants have been planted to
help fill in the empty gardens. As mention in
previous editions, work will need to be completed to
the front of the building to repair the water issues we
continue to experience. Therefore we do not want to
invest too much in the gardens and then tear them
out again.
We continue to experience issues regarding
clean-up and dishes in the Cafeteria. We kindly ask
that if you are using the dishes that you please wash
them and put them away. If you need training on
how to use the dishwasher, please speak to a staff
person or Maisie MacKay. Your assistance is
appreciated.
As you’re aware, Amanda St. John, Program
Assistant, is no longer with us but we have hired a
new staff person to replace her. Her name is Sarah
Louise McGregor (she goes by Sarah Louise) Sarah
Louise’s desk is located behind Lindsay McGinn’s.
Please drop by and introduce yourself. Read on for
more information regarding Sarah Louise.
I’m pleased to inform you that Jennifer McPetrie had
a baby boy, Brayden James, born May 5. We wish
Jen and her family all the happiness in the world.
Stay cool,
Centre Coordinator
Hello Everyone!
My name is Sarah Louise McGregor and I am the
new Program Assistant for Adults and Seniors at the
Centre. Amanda St. John was the previous Program
Assistant and left me some very big shoes to fill,
which I will do my best to maintain!
Let me tell you a little bit about me: I was born and
raised on beautiful Lake Huron in the small town of
Goderich, Ontario. My passion for working with
older adults began at a very young age playing violin
to residents in retirement homes and seniors’ day
programs. To this day, I continue to volunteer my
spare time in such places, doing sing-alongs on
guitar and violin or stopping in for a cup of tea and a
chat.
I came to Oakville three years ago to attend
Sheridan College for the Social Service Worker –
Gerontology Diploma Program. After completing the
two-year program, I decided to continue my
education and take the Project Management
Post-Graduate Certificate Program. I have been
working as a Casual Recreation Support Worker at
Acclaim Health Alzheimers Seniors’ Day Program in
Oakville for the past year.
I look forward to meeting all of you and will do my
best to remember your names. Don’t feel too shy to
stick your head in to the office and look beyond
Lindsay’s desk to say hello! Keep smiling, laugh
often and have fun!
